The biggest news this month in the cricketing fraternity in the country, when BCCI announced the 15 man squad to represent the country, it took precedence over even the ongoing Indian Premier League. While the bowling unit stayed true to type, there were a few surprises on the batting front with Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar being preferred over Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu.

In a statement released, the ECB said, “In line with ICC regulations, we have to name a preliminary squad of 15 for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup before April 23.”

“However, all 17 players named in the Royal London ODI against Pakistan can stake a claim to be in the final 15-man squad finalized at the end of that series. The selection panel has been impressed with Jofra Archer’s performances in domestic and franchise cricket. He is a very talented and exciting cricketer,” it added.
Hosts England will open the world cup, playing against South Africa in the premier tournament’s opener.
