Team England

The hosts England are well on top in this edition of the Cricket World Cup. They have not done anything wrong till now, that’s why they are among the hot favourites to win this year’s Cricket crown.  Morgan and his boys won against West Indies, South Africa, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and their only loss was against Pakistan.

England will want to continue their dominance in this world cup. Their batsmen demolished the Afghan bowlers on Tuesday. Morgan went bang-bang and so as Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root and Moen Ali. Morgan would want to continue his performance in the upcoming matches. And against Sri Lanka, he might go on the repeat mode. Morgan blasted 148 of just 71 balls. He hit 17 sixes in that innings and that’s the world record.

Joe Root is another batsman who has batted well till now. He has been the leading run-scorer for England in this year’s world cup. He can score a hundred at number 3 position and may also open the innings and score a century at the opening slot. Joe Root is the complete package of pure batsmanship. He will be again in-charge against Sri Lanka too.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler missed out in the game against Afghanistan. They both will try and get some runs under their belt. Jos Buttler has a century to his name but that came against Pakistan in losing cause. Buttler would want to score a hundred in a winning cause for England in this world cup.

James Vince also missed out against Afghanistan. He would too want to get some runs under his belt.

England bowlers have done well. Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett are in a good rhythm. But England will need to play Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Malinga well. These two bowlers are Sri Lanka’s trump card. England cannot allow Malinga and Pradeep to settle into any sorts of rhythm. England’s batting display will depend on how they pay the Sri Lankan legend. Even though Malinga hasn’t got that speed but he still has the accuracy. Morgan and his boys can’t take him lightly.

England Probable XI – Jonny Bairstow, James Vince, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood.

Team Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka hasn’t been that team which one would vouch for. Their performance has been below par in this tournament. There are lots of concerns which Sri Lanka needs to address. Their batting hasn’t been up to the mark. Their opening batsmen played well against Australia but there was nothing after that. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera shared an opening stand of 115 runs but the middle order was blown away by the Aussie pacers.

England has a very good pace attack, just like Australia. The Lankan batsmen need to play each ball at its merit. The batters need to apply themselves against the quality bowlers of England. Sri Lankan bowling is worrisome too, apart from Malinga and Pradeep no one is a threat to the opposition.

Isuru Udana bowled well against Australia in the final overs. He has given some hope to the Lankan fans and now he will have to deliver at least for them. Sri Lanka’s senior’s pros Angelo Matthews and Lahiru Thiramane need to step up as batsmen. The Lankan tigers will want these two to hold the middle order.

Sri Lanka’s Probable 11 –  Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Isuru Udana, Thisara Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Pradeep, Dhananjaya de Silva, Milinda Siriwardana, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis
