ICC CWC 2019 England vs West Indies 19th Match Preview Prediction

ICC CWC 2019 England Vs West Indies 19th Match Preview Prediction – Southampton has been very still these days. While the first one saw a low scoring match between South Africa and India, the second one between the West Indies and South Africa was washed out when the former had started to show the aggression. All of this will again be at the show when the hosts England take on a rejuvenated West Indies side whose fast bowling has started to dominate once again. However, the weather seems to be going to play a much bigger part in the match with 40% chances of rain and a possible truncated play. The rain has been lashing Southampton for a few days now and with the world cup getting marred by it, West Indies would pray the skies to hold back while they take on the mighty English side.

England Team Composition

Cricket is a funny game and the bests of them sometimes become its victim. England was off to a great start in the world cup with an easy win over South Africa but was soon brought down by a resurgent Pakistan who had an awfully off day against West Indies. The loss meant they had to reorganize themselves and boy did they come together again. The favorites smashed their highest world cup total against Bangladesh but when West Indies comes searching for them, it won’t be a cakewalk. The hosts have several shortcomings in their line-up which needs to be fixed if they want to be in the world cup final.

The batting looks solid only until the time it looks so. The fragility has always been there. The brittle nature of Jason Roy’s defense and abruptly adhesive nature of Southampton pitch can be on the wrong side. Hence, they need to look for players who can provide impetus in the batting line up. Even against Bangladesh, the English side saw themselves crumbling at the end and if it were not Woakes and Plunkett, they might have succumbed to a 330 total, something which looks gettable these days. Morgan and Stokes need to up their game and so is Moeen Ali who is supposed to be back for the game against West Indies. They must also keep in mind that Stokes, Morgan, and Bairstow have not shown good intent towards short pitch deliveries and that might be on the menu as well.

With success in bowling short balls, the West Indies can come in hard with Cottrell and later with Russell and hence the English batsmen must remain vigilant on the ground to remain positive. The bowling has not been their best department as Jofra Archer spent more than 70 runs in his quota against Pakistan and something which cannot be expected from him at this stage of the tournament against a team like Bangladesh. Some changes could be in store for England when we see them in action. Considering the fact that it has been raining in the Southampton, the team management would be eager to play Plunkett and Wood together to see through the middle phase of the game while leaving Rashid out who has not been that impressive yet.

West Indies Team Composition

Luck doesn’t seem to be on West Indies’ side in this world cup tournament. While some umpiring errors proved to be too big for them against Australia, their match against South Africa at the same venue got washed out as well. It was one match where the team had made some massive inroads by dismissing Amla and Markram quickly. Nevertheless, they would want to have a match as there could be another washout on the cards.

The West Indian batting has been good so far considering they fared well against the company of Starc and Cummins and were superbly placed unless another umpiring error cost them the match. The fact that they would want to move on from that and establish their own league can be proven as a tough measure. They would want to score big with Gayle scoring big upfront. He has often been troubled by swing bowling but the lack of a proper swing bowler in England could come in handy for him. Jofra Archer can trouble him from around the wicket aiming directly at his body but an error in line from him can cost him dearly. The other batsmen must make sure to occupy the crease for some time and not be in a hurry.

Their bowling has been the talking point in this world cup with the way they blew out the Sri Lankan side while sending back half the Australian side below 80. Their prowess with the short balls can be understood from the fact that they are regaining the reputation they had once created in the cricket field.
