Pakistan vs South Africa match Preview  – Pakistan Team

There have been concerns and worrying signs for Pakistan as they have won only one game till now in this tournament. That win came against England. Pakistan needs to put up  a great performanceto make a comeback in this tournament. Their performance was below par against India in the last match. Their batting seems to be decent enough to put up a fighting score on the board.  But they are inconsistent and unpredictable at times.

Iman ul Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohd Hafeez, Shoaib Malik hold the key for them in the batting order. They were close to winning a match against Australia but their batsmen couldn’t hang around.  Pakistani batsmen should fire against South Africa on Sunday, otherwise, it will be too difficult for them to make it to the semis.

If they win the toss, they should bat first. They tried to chase the total twice and faile. Pakistan should bat just like they did against England, where everyone chipped in but Mohd Hafeez was the one who controlled the innings. Hafeez was dropped earlier but he made that chance count.

Batting of Shoaib Malik and skipper Sarfaraz Khan is also a concern for Pakistan. They should promote Shoaib Malik up the order. He is  a pure batsman, Pakistan can’t waste his experience down the order. And then skipper Sarfarz should be able to finish games for them. If Pakistan wants to make it to the semi-finals, then Sarfaraz’s form will be crucial for them.

The bowling is also a concern. Mohd Amir wasn’t effective with the new ball and so was Wahab Raiz. The spinners Shahab Khan and Shaheen Afridi  proved too expensive against India.  The spinners never got it right and kept bowling short to the Indian batsmen. So, they were taken for plenty of runs.

Pakistan will have to sort their batting and bowling issues out, even their fielding wasn’t great as it should have been. They missed an important chance to get the wicket of Rohit Sharma. It was Rohit who took a heavy  toll on the Pakistani bowlers and scored magnificent 140 runs which were enough for India to win that game.

If Pakistan comes good in all the departments then they may get themselves into the top teams. . But their batting will be tested in front of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo. Their bowlers also have an uphill task. Bowling to Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Jean-Paul Duminy and van der Dussen won’t be easy.

Pakistan vs South Africa match Preview – South Africa Team

The Proteas have been knocked out of the world cup 2019. Just like the 2015 world cup, they were knocked out by the New Zealand again. South Africa’s performance was poor in all the matches they have played till now. Their batting and bowling performances haven’t been up to the mark.

They couldn’t chase down the target against England and also failed to set a target against India. That has been the story for them. The batting looks good on paper, but it hasn’t been really firing for them. De Kock, Amla, skipper du Plessis, Miller and JP Duminy are quality batsmen from  their side but they haven’t been up to the mark.

The sudden retirement of AB de Villers has hurt them but still, they are a good team to qualify for the top 4 spots. Van der Dussen has batted decently, but like the other members, hasn’t scored those daddy hundreds which were required the most.

The bowling too has been a worry. The South African Pacers start well but they can’t finish games as they would have liked. Rabada, Morris and Phehukwayo need to finish well after a good start. The bowlers should start building pressure from the ball one and they should be able to maintain pressure on the opposition. This is what a champion team does.

Dale Steyn’s injury and Imran Tahir’s out of form has been another reason for South Africa’s bad performance. Imran Tahir too has been the ordinary bowler like he was in the IPL, which just before this ICC tournament.. His form has hurt South Africa.

Probable XI of South Africa

South Africa should make way for JP Duminy in place of Adien Markram.

Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wk), Faf du Plessis, JP Duminy, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir.

Will South Africa get a consolation win or can Pakistan come on top? The answers will come to us on Sunday 23rd June 2019 at 3 PM IST on Star Sports Networks and Hotstar.
