ICC CWC 2019 South Africa vs India 8th Match Preview Prediction

South Africa vs India 8th Match Preview Prediction  – For far too long, the Indian fans have been waiting for an encounter, but defeats for South Africa in their two starting games must have brought some smile to their faces also. Such has been the wait that the Indian fans have been watching the world cup matches of India’s opponent teams as well to anticipate as to what India would face. While South Africa fans would cheer for the return of Steyn and Amla into the fold, they would also lament that their premier fast bowling option, Ngidi, had to pull out due to a hamstring injury. The Indians, on the other hand, would be match charged and the crowd would be behind them as usual.

It has not been the ideal start the team would have wanted before the start of the tournament. While their batters could not capitalize in both the chases, their bowling looked weary and helpless against a quality Bangladeshi batting and while some people might term their victory as a fluke, it cannot simply be called one given how South Africa was outperformed in all three departments of the game. Their fielding too was not up to par in the last over beside some stints of Duminy at Point. Beaten by England and hammered by Bangladesh, they must be ready for India who would be ready to hit them harder where it hurts the most.

‘The batting looked thin and the middle over needs a solid player’ were some words of advice from Harsha Bhogle as the batting crumbled against quality seam bowling of Mustafizur Rahman. Du Plessis looked in touch but perished in over ambition. He could never really get going as was tied down by some gentle spin bowling from one end. His partner, Markram has promoted up the order to fill the vacancy left by injured Amla, but he too could not get going because of the scoreboard pressure. He is such a fine stroke maker of the ball but failed to sustain his hitting when it was time to calm down and steady the ship. Du Plessis too looked fine in sorts until he hit the half-century. Once he had hit the fifty, the match seemed to be slipping out of Bangladesh but the strikes at the right time kept them alive throughout the inning. He was bowled by Mehidy Hasan who also had kept it tight from one end.

Miller, Dussan and Duminy all received some starts and were batting fluently until their own self got better of themselves. While Miller tried to whack Mustafizur out of the park and instead put a simple catch to Mehidy Hasan, Duminy and Dussan were bowled by Saifuddin and Mustafizur who looked in great touch. The batting couldn’t really go long and the pressure did the rest.

While the South African batters must realize the value of their wickets, they must refrain to be extra smart when taking the field to bowl as well. As Du Plessis said in the post-match presentation, their plan A to unsettle the Bangladeshi batsmen by short pitch deliveries could not really work. And once they were outdone on their Plan A, they never could bring their Plan B into enforcement. When they take the field against the world number 2 side, they must have a plan from A to Z as the opposition they are playing has played some excellent cricket in the past couple of years.

Their bowling too looked out of sorts  and were easily predictable as well. They were whacked all over the park by Bangladesh batsmen who played some good cricket. The team management would like to bring back Amla at the top while replacing Ngidi with Dale Steyn who was seen bowling in the nets. The return of the two senior most players should lift them as well. Chris Morris might see another match in order to bolster the pace attack.

Team: Faf du Plessis (capt), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wk), JP Duminy, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Rassie van der Dussen.

While South Africa looks weary and docile, their opponents India would be riding the seventh star with all the time they have got for practice. News regarding an injury to Virat Kohli sent a chilling impulse to the Indian crowd only to be thwarted by the management later. He seems fine and was seen practicing as well. While the other teams engrossed themselves in match practice, the Indian team took out some time to play paintball the other day and something which tells a lot about the bonding around the team. It also tells how positive the team has been all over the past some years.

The batting would not see much of the change from the warm-up match against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma will open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan, both of whom would want to leave the failures in the practice match behind them and start afresh. Shikhar Dhawan has particularly liked the English conditions and has often given the team fabulous starts down here. The team would expect him to continue his form while Rohit will be itching to leave his mark here as well. Virat Kohli must keep in mind that he would be the most watched player in the tournament and he must come to mark as and when the team requires it. KL Rahul would officially play at number four after his excellent hundred against Bangladesh in the warm-up match while Vijay Shankar might be rested for the game.

It would be interesting to see if the team management tries Dhoni at number five as his position would be crucial throughout the world cup. With a good IPL and a century in the warm-up match, the team would be inclined to play him at the fifth spot. If India decides to play Bhubaneshwar along with the Shami and Bumrah, the team might play Hardik at six and Jadeja at seven as well.

The bowling looks balanced with Bumrah and Shami firing with all cylinders. With South Africa looking vulnerable against spin bowling, they might play Kuldeep with Jadeja leaving Chahal out.
