ICC ODI super league news – Cricket Super League
Last week, the ICC had announced the decision to conduct the 2023 World Cup in October-November. The decision gives them enough time to reschedule the lost matches due to Covid-19. ICC general manager Geoff Allardice also said the Super League would help to restore the integrity of the ODI matches after many concerns were raised over the relevance of ODI cricket amid the gaining popularity of T20I matches. Now the ODI matches will decide the team’s chance to qualify for the World Cup so it gives ODI cricket more context than before.
Each team in 13 nation league would play 4 home and 4 away three-match series. Out of the 13 teams, the 5 teams which fail to be in the top 8 would play 5 Associate teams in the Qualifier 2023. That would determine the next 2 teams who will play the 10 nation World Cup in 2023. The points system of the Super League states that each team would be awarded 10 points for a win, 5 for a tie/no result/abandonment, and no points for a loss. The final teams would be decided on the basis of their points in the Super League points table at the end of the 8 series played.
