In the latest ICC Test rankings, Australia’s Steve Smith has been ranked number one in the batsmen’s rankings. Smith has snatched the number one crown from Virat Kohli and now the King is on the second spot.

Earlier in the Test rankings released on 3 September 2019, Steve Smith took the number-1 position from Virat Kohli. At that time, Virat had been at number one for 13 consecutive months.

Agarwal has returned to his career-best rankings by scoring 92 runs including his half-century in the second innings.

Off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who took three wickets for 99 runs in the first innings against New Zealand, is at the ninth position after losing one place in the bowling list. He is the only Indian bowler in the top 10 with 765 points.

New Zealand fast bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult have gained a lot in the rankings, taking nine and five wickets in the first Test against India respectively.

Southee has gained eight places to reach at number six. This is Southee’s best ranking after a career-best fifth ranking in June 2014. Boult is on the 13th position with the advantage of four places. In the list of all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin are at the third and fifth positions respectively. Jadeja did not play in the first Test while Ashwin scored zero and four runs and has lost one place in the rankings.
