10 September, World Suicide Prevention day

World Suicide Prevention day has been introduced by International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) to create awareness about the increasing rates of suicide and promote preventive measures to help the distressed. For the years 2021-2023, IASP has announced the theme for this event to be “Creating Hope Through Action”

Teej is one of the hardest fasts done usually by married Hindu women. It comes thrice a year on Hariyalika Teej, Kajri Teej, and Hartalika Teej. It is believed that the Hartalika Teej fast grants married women a happy married life and unmarried women to get the kind of groom they wish for. It is celebrated on the Tritiya tithi of the Bhadra month in the Hindu calendar. Teej Vrat includes neither eating nor drinking water and ends on the next day after a puja of Goddess Parvati. Teej vrat is typically celebrated in UP and Bihar.

Ganesh Chaturthi (also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi) is one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals in India. The entire festival, also called the Ganesh Mahotsava, is an 11-day affair, starting on 10 September 2021 this year and ending on 21 September 2021. On this day, devotees bring in Ganesha idols in their homes and offer him Durva Grass, Laddus and, Modak. It is said that worshiping Lord Ganesha brings happiness, peace, and prosperity in life. 11 September, Rishi Panchami

Rishi Panchami Vrat is observed on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. The auspicious occasion of Rishi Panchami is mainly dedicated to the Saptarishis.  According to the belief, it is said that the fate of a person who observes the fast of Rishi Panchami changes in a moment and gets freedom from all kinds of sins of past and present life. Forgiveness is sought on the day of Rishi Panchami, on this day women and men take their blessings by fasting for the seven sages for the mistake committed unknowingly.

11 September,  Nuakhai – Harvest Festival in Odisha

“Nua” means new and “Khai” means food – therefore, the festival of Nuakhai translates to “new food”. As a result, the Nua Khai festival is a celebration of newly harvested food by farmers. It is celebrated one day after Ganesh Chaturthi, primarily in the western portion of Odisha, with much enthusiasm and happiness. On this day, people who have been living in other places return to their homelands, dress in new garments, pray to God, and eat delectable dishes made from newly gathered crops. Although it has lost its prominence over the decades, the oral tradition of this event dates back to the 12th century A.D., when Chauvan Raja Ramai Deo held it at Patanagarh.

The Neelamperoor Padayani Festival is a 16-night folk ceremony. The great Padayani festival is celebrated on Pooram Day in the month of Chingam in Malayalam. The festival is celebrated in Kerala. People famously gather at the Palli Bhagavathi Temple in Neelamperoor for the occasion, but due to covid restrictions that may not happen this year.

19 September – Anant Chaturdashi

On the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month, the festival of Anant Chaturdashi is observed. This year it will take place on Sunday, September 19, 2021. On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped. It is a Hindu belief that by fasting on this day and attaching Anantasutra to Vishnu Ji, one can achieve complete freedom from all obstacles. On this day, Ganesh Visarjan is also commemorated, enhancing the significance of the celebration even further.
