West Indies had many batting failures, their bowling is good enough to put up a fight but their batting somehow doesn’t click. The openers and the middle order batsmen are not in a good nick. This was seen in the world cup and the concluded 3 match T20 International series as well. With Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, and Shai Hope back in the ODI squad, one will expect West Indies to bat much better than they did in the T20I series.

The Windies’ batsmen need to put up a fight in the ODI series. They will need to play the 50 over format with a proper frame of mind. Christopher Henry Gayle will be the player to watch out for in this match to come up. He missed the T20I series and opted to play the T20 league in Canada instead. It is a debatable question whether a player can opt to play in such leagues instead of playing for their country?

Shai Hope’s inclusion in the game might be a good one for the hosts. West Indies can Hope for him to fire in the 3 match ODI series as Shai really brings stability to the batting line up of the West Indies. Shimron Hetmyer was silent in the T20I series, but now needs to buckle up otherwise his place in the side will be in danger. He can be replaced with many all-rounders in the side. Hetmyer is a dangerous player but needs to prove that again after his low scoring runs.

Jason Holder, the ODI skipper is back and is one of the quality all-rounders West Indies have currently. But, his performance has not been consistent, like we saw in the world cup 2019. Holder will have the responsibility of holding and finishing the innings. In the absence of Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell, Holder will be the man who can do their job from the home side. The middle-order too needs to fire up. Players like Nicholas Pooran, Carlos Brathwaite, and Keemo Paul were silent in the T20I series but, they will need to show their all-round skills for a Windies victory. Roston Chase is another all-rounder who can be useful for West Indies. He can replace Hetmyer in the playing XI. His addition will bring an extra bowler in the team and the batting also will be deep.

India Vs West Indies – 1st ODI – Match Preview – Team India Preview

Team India will look to dominate the One Day International Series after their T20I win. India won the T20I series with a score of 3-0. The men in blue will look to complete a whitewash in the 50 overs format as well. But, for that Shikhar Dhawan needs to be consistent. Dhawan had an ordinary T20I series after looking good in the 2nd T20 International. He was back to his poor form in the last match of the T20I series. Dhawan has a good record against West Indies in ODIs and he should look to replicate that.

Rishabh Pant played well in the last match of the T20I series. But, now he needs to be consistent. He should look to replicate the last T20I inning in the ODI series and should play with some responsibility and guide the team through the tough phases. After Kohli scored a good fifty and Rohit’s blazing form in the T20I, they will want to carry their good forms in the ODI series as well. But the problem of the number 4 batting position still haunts India. They have drafted Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer in the side. KL Rahul will also play the ODIs.

IND vs WI 1st ODI 2019 Scoreboard

Who will be the number 4 batsman for India in this ODI series? Will it be KL Rahul, Manish Pandey or Shreyas Iyer? India needs to stick with one of them throughout the 3 match ODI series. In the bowling department, the duo who were rested in the T20I series is going to be back. ‘KULCHA’ will play the one day format. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will play the ODIs after the world cup tournament. These two are good for Team India in the middle overs.

The Windies will have a tough time facing the spin of KULCHA but, the question is who will be preferred alongside Ravindra Jadeja? Or will Jadeja play the 50 over series? He did well in the T20Is but, if India wants KULCHA to play then they will have to drop Jadeja in the ODI series again. It will be a tough call to make for the skipper and the team management. India will also look to let Mohd Shami play in ODIs after not selecting him in the 3 match T20I series. It is clear that Shami will not be a part of world T20 in Australia next year. Kedar Jadhav will look to contribute with the bat more than he did in the world cup 2019 tournament. After having an ordinary world cup he was also not selected on this tour. Now, it will be up to Kedar to justify his selection. Can Navdeep Saini make his ODI debut as well? This youngster impressed everyone with his skills in the 1st T20I that he played in Florida. It would be interesting to see the playing XI of team India for this 1st ODI.
