With the senior side set to tour England mid next month for a full-fledged series, the India A kicked off their United Kingdom tour with their first match against ECB XI. And did they kick it off in style, sealing a comprehensive win in their opener? Playing in Leeds, India A batted first to score a massive 328-8 before dismissing the hosts for 203 to bag a stylish 328 win for themselves. It was an all-around showing by the visitors, with every player contributing to the emphatic victory. The win will put India in good stead ahead of their 50-over tri-series, involving England Lions and West Indies, from June 22. They will also play two unofficial Tests against West Indies A and one against England Lions the coming month.
Coming back to India A UK tour first cricket match highlights, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first turned out to be the wrong decision for ECB XI after they were put under the couch by the Indians. Playing every bowler with ease, India’s young generation of cricket stars made it look as if they were playing on home conditions. Apart from Mayank Agarwal who departed for just 4, all of India’s batsmen spent substantial time in the middle, garnering up runs for themselves as they took their side to 328 from their allotted overs. Prithvi Shaw continued from where he had left off for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, playing his usual brand of aggressive cricket. He took on the English pacers, putting them on the back foot with his 7 fours and 3 sixes. He and Kishan shared a 99 run stand between them before failing to medium pacer Ryan Higgins off successive balls. The duo had however set up a strong enough platform for the middle order to work on. Kishan continued where the two had left off as the trio of Shaw (70 off 61), Iyer (54 off 45) and Kishan (50 off 46) helped India A amass a healthy total.
The home side started off nicely, cautiously playing off India’s main bowlers while keeping the runs flowing. Their challenge, however, came to an end after Jacks and Slater departed. They lost 6 wickets for 98 to be bundled out for 203 in 36.5 overs.
