  • The area is characterized by high altitude terrain and thick habitation which have resulted in inadequate development of infrastructure in these regions.

Jammu and Kashmir (1597 kms)

J&K is a union territory located in the Himalayan mountains. It shares the border with Aksai Chin which is the Chinese-administered territory in the east. It also borders Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in the south and touches the Pakistani-administered territories – Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in the north and the west.

Sikkim (220 kms)

Sikkim is a rare state which only connects with one state of the country. The only state of India that connects to Sikkim is West Bengal while other borders of Sikkim connect with countries like Nepal in the West, Bhutan in the East, and China in the north. The state is best known for its biodiversity and is the second smallest state in India.

Arunachal Pradesh (1126 kms)

China and India are also connected through Arunachal Pradesh where the border is called the McMohan Line. Arunachal Pradesh also borders Bhutan, Myanmar, Assam, and Nagaland. The Repulic of China claims to hold a large part of the state which is sometimes referred to as ‘South Tibet’.

Himachal Pradesh (200 kms)

Himachal Pradesh touches China in the east. This state also connects to other states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, and J&K.

Uttarakhand (345 kms)

Uttarakhand is one such state which is part of north-central, northern, and central India. It borders China in the north, Nepal in the east, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. This state is also referred to as Devbhumi, which means the land of Gods.

The Border Guarding Force at the Indo-China Border is the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. ITBP has also established BOPs (Border Out Posts) along the Line of Actual Control. The total number of BOPs are 173 out of which 35 falls under the Western Sector (J&K), 71 falls under the Middle Sector (Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand), and 67 falls under the Eastern Sector (Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh).
