A star-studded event organized by the Paralympic Committee of India gave a rousing send off to the Indian contingent for the Para Asian Games as the India team leaves for Asian Para Games 2018 which are set be played from October 6-13 in Jakarta, Indonesia. A massive 300 member strong Indian squad which includes 200 athletes will see India compete in disciplines ranging from swimming, athletics, chess, powerlifting, and badminton.
“A massive 300-member team including about 200 athletes, coaches, support staff, escorts, staff, and officials will be flying to Jakarta as part of the Indian contingent,” President, PCI, Rao Inderjit Singh, told PTI.

Coming back to India team leaves for Asian Para Games 2018, a glamorous ceremony organized by PCI saw Shah Rukh Khan and eminent sporting personalities from the country attend the event to give India’s para-athletes a heartwarming adieu as the team jetted off to Indonesia on Wednesday.
Khan, who heads the Meer foundation that supports the para-athletes, said: “My motivation for coming here is very selfish, I used to play sports when I was a child. I got hurt one day and after that, I was stuck at home for over a year. “I thought my life is over but when I see these players I get inspired. I have come to take inspiration and thank these para-athletes for motivating me.”
India’s para-athletes boast of some of the best in the world. Putting in an impressive performance at the Incheon edition of the Para Asian Games, India returned with a rich tally of 33 medals including three gold, 14 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
India’s bid for medals will be lead by its largest ever contingent at the Para Asian Games. In total the country will be taking part 13 events-archery, para lifting, judo, chess, badminton, powerlifting, swimming, athletics, cycling, table tennis, tenpin bowling, fencing, and boccia. The country’s medal charge will lead by Devendra Jhajharia, Mariappan Thangavelu, and Varun Bhati at the continental event. PCI vice-president Gursharan Singh is India’s chef-de-mission and will be in charge of the entire continent.
The Para Asian games see the introduction of chess for the physically-abled and blind for the first time. India is sending a total of 18 players to take part in the event which features 9 men and 9 women.
