- The first match begins on 16th November
- Both the teams will play a 3 match test series
- India’s squad for the first 2 matches has been announced
Sri Lanka’s tour of India is all set to begin starting 16th November as both the countries square off in the first test match of the three-match test series at the Eden Gardens. India’s home season draws to an end with them playing Sri Lanka in all three formats of the game. Having earlier defeated the Lankans 0-9 in their own backyard this year itself, India goes into the series as firm favorites. With the series just around the corner, we take a look at 5 players who could win the series single handily for India.
- Virat Kohli
The Indian skipper comes into the series in red-hot form as both captain and player. Leading from the front his excellent captaincy and tactics paired with his glowing form with the bat have ensured that India has defeated Sri Lanka, West Indies, Australia and New Zealand. The incentive of going past Gingili’s record of 21 test wins will see the maestro extra pumped up for the upcoming series.
- Ajinkya Rahane
With a slew of runs under his belt recently, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has been a stable anchor in India’s batting order. Expect some more subliminal batting performances from him in the upcoming series. Gifted with immense talent and timing, Rahane holds the power to win matches for India on his own.
- Shikhar Dhawan
With the opener finally coming good with two half-centuries in the recently concluded series against New Zealand, India has been given a major boost at the top of their batting order. His flamboyant innings of 80 in the first T20 against the Kiwis, proved that on his day he can decimate any bowling attack. Expectations will be high for him to do the same against Sri Lanka.
- Ravichandran Ashwin
Having last played for India against Sri Lanka in the test series where he enjoyed a good haul of wickets, Ashwin comes back into the Indian team on the back of some good performances in domestic cricket. Along with Jadeja, the duo will be looking to steamroll past the Lankan batsmen like they did earlier in the year against the same opponent.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Having taken the mantel of lead Indian pace bowler, Kumar has proved time and time again why he is today the face of Indian fast blowing. Providing the much-needed aid and impetuous to the spin department, Kumar will be going into the series looking to undo Sri Lanka with the many bags of tricks up his sleeve.
