India Vs Afghanistan preview – After Pakistan, the second Asian team which will play against India is Afghanistan on 22nd June at Southampton.
India is the firm favourites against the inexperienced Afghanistan side. India and Afghanistan have played against each other in the Asia cup. The thrilling match ended in a tie. The Afghans have a good side. Even though it is their first time in the World Cup, they can’t be taken lightly. India knows that the neighbours have some quality players and a few Afghanistan players are also part of the IPL. Players like Rashid Khan, Mohd Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman are the key players on their side. With spin, the Afghans have a quality pace attack too.
India Vs Afghanistan preview – Team Afghanistan
Dawlat Zadran and Gulbadin Naib bowl reasonably well and they can use the seaming condition in their favour. But their bowling looked much below par against England. Their inexperience was clearly exposed. Rashid Khan will have to make a strong comeback in the next match. He seemed to be a threat but Morgan and his boys blasted him all over the park. Rashid Khan conceded 110 runs from just 54 balls and allowed England to post a mammoth score of 397 in their 50 overs. The pacers too leaked runs. Afghanistan had only 2 pacers in their clash against England, which is not a good idea. Naib and Zadran bowled decently, still, they need one more pace bowling option against India.
While chasing a mammoth score, Afghanistan was never into it. Their weak link is their batting and India will expose their batsmen.
India Vs Afghanistan preview – Team India
India has quality bowlers like Bumrah, Pandya, Kuldeep and Chahal. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will not be playing because of the injury he got during the match against Pakistan. Fortunately, this won’t make the bowling look weak because Mohd Shami will replace injured Bhuvi in the side. With Vijay Shankar’s bowling form and Shami’s return, things will be difficult for the Afghan batsmen.
On the other hand, India will look to chop and change. They would like to give an opportunity to Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja. But whom can these two replace? That’s the question which Virat Kohli and the team management will have to address.
The Indian team is in a very good nick. Their spirit is well lifted with their wins over South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. Rohit Sharma batted well with his new partner KL Rahul. Hit Man has been awesome in this world cup so far. His knocks of 133 not out, 57 and 140 has given India the hope. He would want to keep his good game on just like his partner Rohit Sharma.
Virat Kohli too is in good nick as India’s top three are always in form. But they should also give a chance to the lower order players like Kedar Jadhav too, who played only once in this tournament. MS Dhoni didn’t do well in the game against Pakistan and Hardik Pandya wasn’t seen at his best too as he was against Australia. These two would like to make some good scores against Afghanistan on Saturday.
India has the best bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are at their very best in this tournament so far. With Shami coming in, the Indian pace attack will be more lethal than before.
