This series for India will be tougher than any other series that has ever been played until now. India’s only loss in the grand home season came against Australia when the visitors toured India for the ODI series last year. Even though Kohli and his men started the series on a good note, they somehow ended losing the last three matches of that 5 match ODI series and that Australian side didn’t even have Warner and Smith in their set up.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview

The current Australian side looks even more dangerous with the return of Warner and the all time reliable – Steve Smith. The Indian bowlers are great but they will need to prove their greatness once again when they bowl to batsmen like Finch, Warner, Smith, Labuschagne, Carey, and Handscomb.

India will want bowlers like Shami, Bumrah, Saini, and Thakur to step up well. The hosts will want a good start with the new ball and wickets of the dangerous opening duo. They just cannot relax with the wickets of Warner and Finch.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – Australia has its all time reliable middle order. Steve Smith is the one who holds their batting order like a pillar. The Morden day great batsman will be a huge threat to the Indian bowlers. Smith also has the experience of playing in the Indian conditions – all thanks to the IPL for providing good exposure to the foreign players.

Then, the lower order too has some marvellous hitters. The likes of Alex Carey, Peter Handscomb, Ashton Turner, and Ashton Agar are capable of putting up a huge score on the board. India will have to start well and control the innings in between and then the test of finishing the innings will also be there. Now, India has Bumrah who can control the later part.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – But still, the middle overs from the spinners will be a handy and this gives rise to another important question, Will the duo of KULCHA play in the 1st One Day International? Or will India stick to Jadeja who is the spin bowling all-rounder? Chahal and Kuldeep can trouble the Australian batsmen because they haven’t faced them for a long time and another thing which might go in India’s favour is that the Australians have not played the white-ball cricket after their loss to England in the semi-final of the 2019 world cup.

So, in this case, the Australian batsmen may look a little scratchy and if KULCHA can play, then this duo will add more pressure on the Australian batsmen. India should do one more thing to start the series on a good note. They should win the toss and choose to bat first, only to put up a big score on the board.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – The Indian openers are in a good nick. Rohit Sharma will return to his opening position after a well-deserved rest against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded T20 International series which India won by a 2-0 margin. But who will be his opening partner? Will it be KL or Gabbar?

According to many experts, KL Rahul should get a nod to open the innings in the first two One Day International matches of this series. This is because, KL has shown a spark in the series where got the opportunity to perform. But some experts also say that Shikhar Dhawan has got the experience and his last innings against Australia was in the World Cup 2019 where he scored a magical hundred. Now, the team management will be in dilemma of choosing the openers for their first match against Australia.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – Virat Kohli will be wanting to make a good start in this series. He will want to get some runs under his belt before heading to the tour in the Kiwi Nation. Shreyas Iyer will be closely seen at the number 4 spot again. He has been good but he should be consistent from now on. Pant batted well in the first two ODIs against the West Indies. He should take inspiration from those matches and do well against the mighty Aussies as well.

Kedar Jadhav at number 6? Jadhav performed decently in the series against the West Indies but his bowling wasn’t that impressive. Jadhav is looked at like the number 6 batsman and as a part-time bowler. Jadhav has a knack of picking up wickets. But in the last One Day series, he couldn’t pick a single wicket. India can also promote Jadeja to bat at number 6, like he bats for India in test matches.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – Probable XI Of Team India

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan/KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Well, Australia will be eager to start the new year on a winning note in the 50 over format. The Aussies have had a phenomenal run score in the test matches at home. After they drew the Ashes series in England, they whitewashed the opponents in the test matches. They won the series against Pakistan 2-0 and also won the series against New Zealand 3-0. All these test matches have been won in four days itself.

But now, they will have to gear up for the 50 over format series against India. Australia has not played any One Day games since they lost to England in the 2019 world cup and the majority players of the ODI side are the test specialists. Except for skipper Finch and Alex Carey all the other batsmen and bowlers have played more test matches than ODIs.

Australia will want Warner and Smith to come good in this ODI series. More of the attention will go to the star who came as the concussion replacement. But, he is now the star for Australia in the test matches. Marnus Labsuchagne will make his ODI debut in this series against India.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – Labuschagne has had great success in the longer format of the game and will now be eyeing to repeat that success in the 50 over format as well. Australia will want him to bat at his favourite number 3 position just like he does in the test matches. The Aussies hope that a better future will be made for Labuschagne in the ODI format.

Peter Handscomb has got another chance to cement his place in this ODI side for Australia. He will have to play a huge role in finishing the innings with Alex Carey, who is the keeper-batsman for Australia in this series. Carey has been impressive in the ODI set up of Australia and has played some good innings during the 2019 world cup in England.

The fast bowling department has been lethal. Strac, Cummins, Kane Richardson, and Hazlewood have been good pace bowlers. Australia has two quality all rounders – Agar and Turner and a lone lead spinner Adam Zampa in the squad.

India vs Australia First ODI 2020 Match Preview – Probable XI Of Team Australia –

Aaron Finch, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa.

India is the favourite to start the series on a winning note. But will Australia start dominating this series from Mumbai?
