India for the umpteenth time trashed Australia this season as they went on to comfortably win by 9 wickets against Australia. Chasing a reduced target of 49 runs from 6 overs after Australia had earlier made 118/8; it was a walk in the park for the men in blue in Ranchi as they went on to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Australia was once again left scratching their heads as a clearly superior Indian side walked all over them.


Winning the toss and opting to field first, India set the tone for the Australian innings in the first over itself after Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed David Warner in the first over itself. Kuldeep Yadav bowled brilliantly and the Aussies were never able to read him as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Despite Finch’s heroics, the side from down under was not able to get past the wily Yadav who ended up bowling a match changing spell of 2-16 off his 4 overs.


With rain bringing a halt to proceedings, play finally resumed with the match being reduced to 6 overs and India being handed a revised target of 49 runs off 6 overs. Captain Virat Kohli (22) and Rohit Sharma (15) took India took victory by 9 wickets with the D/L method with Yadav taking home the man of the match award for his heroics.


With the win, India’s unbeaten record against Australia at home in T20s remained intact. This is also their seventh consecutive win on the trot against Australia in the format. It will be a real battle for Australia to one-up the Indians and keep their hopes alive in the series in the second match of the series in Guwahati.
