The Indian batsman silenced all his critics in style on day 2 of the first test match between India and England after he single handidly guided India to win the match. Silencing all his critics in style, Kohli scored his first century on English soil in perilous circumstances for the visitors.
Coming back to India vs England first test match highlights, taking the last remaining English wicket in the beginning of day two’s play, India marched out to bat trailing England by 287 runs. They got off to the perfect start with openers Dhawan and Vijay putting on a first run stand for the opening wicket. With things looking rosy for India, calamity did not take long to strike with the English’s pacers striking in quick succession to put the Indians in a spot from where they seemed no return. Sam Curran was the main architect of England’s dominance on the match, picking up the trio of the Indian top order. With much being made about Kohli’s form in England, the Indian skipper knew just one way to shush his doubters. One of his best innings to date saw him rescue his side from a near death bed situation. Disciplined yet fearless in his approach, Kohli took on the likes of Anderson, Curran and Stokes with no restraint. And such was the genius of his innings that he put on 99 runs with the last three Indian batsmen, playing out not only the majority of the balls in these partnerships but adding 91 runs as compared to 8 by the others.
Jolted back by the Virat Kohli show, England ended the day in the worst way possible after Cook was sent packing by Ashwin in a copy past moment from the first innings to end at 9-1.
