India’s tour of England is living up every bit to the hype it got. After dominating in the first match, a nail-biter in the second saw India go down by five wickets on a track that is the epitome of English pitches. No matter how disappointing the result was for us Indians, it means that the final match of the three-match T20 series will be a thriller with both teams going out all, giving their all in a bid to lift the first of the three trophies at the offer of this two-month long tour.
Coming back to India vs England third T20 match preview, billed as the warm up to the longer format series, the T20 series between two of the best cricketing sides in the world has been much more than just a starter. Treated to some magnificent, aggressive and beautiful stroke-play and wrist work from both the sides, the bowling has been a notch better. While Indian spin has shown for the visitors, the pace has once again proved to be the English’s main weapon, destroying India in the last match. With both countries boasting of such fine performances and players over the first two matches, who’ll win the decider and take it all home is very hard to say. We try to dissect what both the countries will need to do to go one better against each other.
With Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal both failing to shine in the last match, the Indian side found themselves in a spot of bother. In addition, losing Bumrah to injury has been a big blow for the Asians, putting a huge bulk of the burden on Kumar’s shoulders. Despite bowling three outstanding overs in the last match, Kumar ended up leaking 14 in his final over. This is only further proof of Kumar’ dipping form which has been on display since the IPL. Failing to control his line and length in the death overs, Kumar seems to be running out of ideas. Yadav who was drafted in place of Bumrah failed to impress either and this leaves the Indian’s seriously lacking in the pace department. Something needs to go right for them here if they want to put up their best fight in the T20 on Sunday.
For England, Ball, Willey and Plunkett shining in the last match mean we should expect another green bed at the County Ground. The match between two of the best batting sides will end be being decided by who bowls better on the day.
