The Indian football side suffered a shock defeat in their latest international football friendly against Jordan. Travelling to the King Abdullah II Stadium, in Amman, India were humbled 2-1 by a side that is ranked 15 places below them in the FIFA rankings. For 112th ranked Jordan the result was a memorable result in their history and one that also saw them defeat the visitors in the first ever football match taking place between the two sides.
Coming back to India Vs Jordan International football friendly match highlights, a depleted Indian side still went into the match as favourites despite missing many of their talismans and were expected to come out on the right side of the result on the night. However, a resilient and well drilled Jordan side had other plans in store, stunning India out from the opening whistle with their attacking style of football to rattle India’s defence which eventually went onto concede a penalty in the 10th minute. Lucky not to concede from that after the spot-kick was saved by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to deny Baniatiyeh, India failed to learn their lesson, continuing to play loosely.
Creating chance after chance, Jordan finally found themselves going ahead in the unlikeliest of fashion in the 25th minute. A goal kick by their keeper Amer Shafi bounced right in front of Gurpreet who failed to judge the bounce of the ball to let in a howler. Letting the ball go above his head, Gurpreet produced a miserable moment of goal-keeping to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, one they went to capitalise on.
The second half was no different from the first with the Indians suffering lapses in their defence, giving the ball away far too cheaply to Jordan. Countering from an Indian corner, Jordan converted attack to defence brilliantly to find their second of the match in the 58th minute via Haddad.
Looking to get a result from the match, India got one back through Nishu Kumar just three minutes later with Jordan’s sloppy defending allowing Nishu to convert from close range. Huffing and puffing to create chances from there on, the Indians lacked any definite rhythm to their game, failing to find the equaliser.
A 90th minute chance for Jordan after Al-Bakhit on the right side of the pitch went past two Indian defenders and passed it in the middle, only to find the striker sky the shot past the goal ensured that the score remained at 2-1, a result that leaves India’s preparations shaky ahead of the Asia Cup in 2019.
