India vs New Zealand 1st Test 2020 Highlights – It has been an amazing turn around for New Zealand after the 0-5 whitewash in the five-match T20 International series against India at home. After that debacle, the hosts went on to win the One Day International Series by a 3-0 margin and in the first test match too, the home team thrashed the Indian batting powerhouse.
New Zealand has won the first test match by a 10 wicket margin and now, they have beaten the table-toppers of the world test championship. This hammering loss is the first one for India at Wellington. The Indian side was blown away in both the innings of the first test match.

New Zealand bowled first and bowled well in both the innings after which India managed to score just 165 runs in their first innings. Players like Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal got their start but failed to convert them into some big scores. And due to the rain, the first day ended early. But the Indian batsmen were in trouble due to the exceptional bowling by New Zealand.
On the first day itself, New Zealand bowlers put some immense pressure on the Indian batsmen. The hosts picked up five wickets on day one with just 122 runs on the board. One should say that rain saved India on the first day and on day two, New Zealand continued their class as India managed only 33 runs on the second day morning.
Due to hostile bowling was done by New Zealand, India managed just 165 runs on the board. Debutant, Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee picked up four wickets each to their names. The New Zealand innings too started poorly, but Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor played some crucial knocks which helped them to go past the 1st innings of India with ease.

Ross Taylor, who played his 100th test match, missed his half-century by 6 runs. He was out to Ishant Sharma on 44 runs while Skipper Williamson played a gem of a knock. He missed out of a century and was out to Shami on 80 runs.
But, it was the tail that put New Zealand ahead in this first test match. Grandhomme, Jamieson, and Boult scored some handy runs in the end that allowed New Zealand to post a formidable total on the board. The Kiwis scored 348 runs in their first innings. This score gave them the lead of 183 runs.
For India, they started off well but they could not control the middle and the end phase of the New Zealand innings. Ishant Sharma was the pick of bowlers for India. He picked up five wickets just like he did on the 2014 tour.
India vs New Zealand 1st Test 2020 Highlights – India was still trailing by 183 runs and needed their batsmen to fire up to go ahead in this test match but that didn’t happen for the visitors. India again had a poor start to their innings. Shaw continued his poor show and in the 2nd innings, he was out for just 14 runs.
Pujara hung around for some time but Boult gave New Zealand a timely dismissal. Pujara was out just before the tea break. Kohli looked good till the time he was batting, but Boult produced a magical delivery to dismiss the King for just 19 runs.
At the end of the third day’s play, India lost 4 wickets for just 144 runs on the board. Rahane again battled it out with Vihari on the crease. On the fourth and the last day, the kiwi bowlers wasted no time in dismissing the Indian bowlers cheaply.
India vs New Zealand 1st Test 2020 Highlights – India went past the lead which was put by New Zealand. But they managed only 191 runs in their 2nd innings. This meant that New Zealand had only 9 runs as the target which they achieved very easily in the end. It took just two hours for New Zealand to wrap up the first test match. This happened because Rahane and Vihari couldn’t negotiate the new ball and then the tail failed wag just like the New Zealand lower order batsmen did.

New Zealand bowlers were too good in the second innings as well. Boult took 5 wickets, Southee took 4 while de Grandhomme took 1 wicket to his name. New Zealand was the comfortable winners of the first test match. The Kiwis won the first test match by 10 wickets. They also go up 1-0 in the two-match test series.
India vs New Zealand 1st Test 2020 Highlights – Tim Southee was awarded the man of the match award for his good bowling spell. Southee looked off-colored in the T20 International series but came back strongly after that.
The next match will be the 2nd Test Match which will be played from 29th February 2020 to 4th March 2020 at Christchurch.
