India vs New Zealand 2020 1st T20 Highlights – It was a magnificent chase by Team India in the first match of this five-match T20 International series. It was a stellar performance from the top three batsmen that allowed India to lead this T20 International series 1-0.

Even though the bowlers didn’t have a good day with the ball and the early set back of Rohit Sharma, gave India a minor tension in this match. But like all other good teams, India too made a magnificent comeback in the match and went on to win it by 6 wickets and 1 over to spare.

India bowled first in this match. This is because this team of Virat Kohli loves chasing. But, the new ball bowlers struggled to make an early impact in the game. Shami and Thakur went for plenty in their allotted overs while Dube and Bumrah were economical but couldn’t provide the breakthrough.

Munro and Guptill started the innings in a blazing fashion and that is what put the pressure on the Indian bowlers. Munro went after Shami and Thakur while Guptill played a watchful inning. The Kiwi openers added 80 runs in just 7.5 overs.

This partnership was broken by Shivam Dube when Martin Guptill was caught by Rohit Sharma for 30 runs. But Munro continued his classy knock with skipper Williamson at the other end. They both took New Zealand towards the 100 run mark and with that Munro also reached his T20 International fifty.

De Grandhomme was promoted up the order, but this didn’t work for the home team as Ravindra Jadeja took just 2 balls to dismiss Grandhomme for a golden duck! Then, it was all about the experienced duo of New Zealand who took the charge of the proceedings.

Kane Williamson was already well set and was also given one life by Chahal on the boundary. Yuzvendra Chahal missed a regulation catch when Skipper Williamson was batting on 24 runs. India had to pay a huge price for it. Due to that missed catch, Kane muscled the Indian bowlers all over the Eden Park.

But India came back well again, they picked up 2 wickets in two overs and because of that, the New Zealand innings lost momentum. They could set off only 203 runs. When the openers were going strong and the partnership between Taylor and Williamson was unbreakable, there was one thought. Will India have to chase a stiff target of over 230 to 240 runs?

This didn’t happen due to the magnificent bowling by Team India in the death overs. India got Kane Williamson out after he reached his fifty. The New Zealand skipper was out for 51 runs which he scored from just 26 balls. India also picked up Tim Seifert in the next over for just 1 run.

New Zealand scored 203 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The Kiwis lost the momentum in between due to a great comeback by the Indian quicks. The hosts would have reached a score above 230, but Bumrah, Dube, Chahal, Jadeja, and Thakur picked up 1 wicket each and restricted them to such a score.

The chase didn’t start off well for India. Hit Man was out in the very first over of the Indian innings. Rohit scored just 7 runs to his name. Then, it was a rebuilding process in which Rahul and skipper Kohli did very well. They snitched a partnership that kept India in the hunt of this run chase.

The idea of promoting Shivam Dube ahead of Manish Pandey too didn’t work that well. Dube scored just 13 runs and was out to Ish Sodhi. India lost quick wickets in the middle, but Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey ensured that India chased down this target without any further hiccups.

India vs New Zealand 2020 1st T20 Highlights – Iyer continued from where he left against Australia in the third and the final match at Bengaluru. He shaped the innings very well and took the game away from the New Zealand team. He reached his 2nd T20 International of his career and guided his team through a win.

Manish Pandey played a match finishing inning, just like he played against Sri Lanka a few weeks ago. But this was an even superb inning from him because New Zealand is an even tougher side than Sri Lanka. He then applied the finishing touches when the team was in need. Pandey Ji was not out on 14 runs.
