India vs New Zealand 2020 first match preview – The Great Kiwi challenge awaits India on the tour of New Zealand. This tour starts with the 5 match T20 International series that will begin on Friday, 24th January 2020 at the Eden’s Park in Auckland. India will look to improve their T20 record against the Great Kiwis. The men in blue haven’t been that impressive against New Zealand in the shortest format.

The onus will be on the top 3 again. Rohit, KL, and Skipper Kohli will have to deliver in this first match of the series. Rohit’s form in the T20 Internationals has gone through many ups and downs. He hasn’t been that consistent in T20s like he is in ODI cricket. Rohit has the most T20 hundreds to his name and now it has been too long that Hit Man has not scored another ton in the shortest format. Maybe Rohit will be eyeing for a big score in Auckland on Friday.

KL Rahul is the team’s main just like another Karnataka player, Rahul Dravid. KL also switches himself as per the team’s requirement. He can open the innings, he can bat at number 4 and number 5, and can also do the job behind the stumps. Rahul will be the full-time keeper in this five-match T20 series against New Zealand and will also be the opening partner for Rohit Sharma in the limited over series.

India has lost Shikhar Dhawan due to a shoulder injury which he sustained during the third and the final One Day International match against Australia at Bengaluru. So, KL and Rohit must give India a solid start to help the team in posting or chasing a total.

India vs New Zealand 2020 first match preview – New Zealand has a good bowling attack, so the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul will need to come good. If the top 3 fires for India, then it will not put pressure on the middle order. This middle order is inexperienced and includes Iyer, Pant, and Manish Pandey. Although they are all good with the bat, they should be good enough to take the game from the opposition.

Their contributions will come in handy after the openers put up a good show for a good foundation.

The bowling also looks good with Bumrah, Shami, and Saini. These three pacers have been brilliant for India. But the inclusion of Shardul Thakur will bring the all-rounder that India needs. Ravindra Jadeja will add depth to the Indian batting but as a bowler, he needs to step up. He will have to bowl like he did in the last ODI match against Australia at Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Risabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Shami, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand is still a stronger team than India in this series and even though they will not be with their regular starts like Boult, Latham, and other stars. But still, they have a strong batting line up which is taken care by Guptill, Williamson and Taylor. The Kiwi team also has a bunch of all rounder’s who can do two jobs at a time with ease.

The focus of New Zealand will be to regroup as a unit after they were whitewashed by Australia in the longer version of the game. Williamson will have to take charge with the bat. The test series in Australia didn’t go as Williamson wanted. But now, he has a chance to change things around for his country.

India vs New Zealand 2020 first match preview – The same thing can be said for Ross Taylor as well. In the test series against Australia, he wasn’t good as per the standards set by him. Ross is the boss of New Zealand’s team. He and skipper Williamson share a good relation which can be used by them for this entire series.

Martin Guptill is another player whose form will be watched closely. Guptill has the experience but his form hasn’t been up to the mark. In this series, he will be seen closely by both the boards ahead of the World T20 in Australia that will be played in October 2020. If Guptill wants to be there, then he should take up all the opportunities which come by and that’s why this series will be a perfect audition for that mega ICC event.

De Grandhomme, Daryl Mitchell, Mitch Santner and Colin Munro are handy all-rounders for New Zealand. They can turn the game with their batting and bowling. New Zealand has a luxury of having these all rounders which also makes them a formidable side.

India vs New Zealand 2020 first match preview – Ish Sodhi has done well against India in the shortest format and with that, the Kiwis have the likes of Santner and Williamson to roll their arm over if they need. The fast bowlers are also in good nick. New Zealand will miss Boult, but they have Southee as their lead pacer for this series.

New Zealand always had an upper hand against India in the shortest format. In 11 T20 Internationals matches, India has just won three while New Zealand has won 8. India has a record of winning just 1 game in the 5 matches against New Zealand.
