India vs North Korea- India after suffering a shocking defeat against Tajikistan earlier in the week, found themselves losing once again to North Korea. The game ended with the score line 2-5. After their performance in the first game, it seemed more likely that the Blue Tigers won’t be able to find answers against a team like North Korea’s. The Indian football team is going through a phase of transition under the new coach Igor Stimac as he once again changed the starting line up for this match.
We saw 9 new players this time with Amrinder Singh replacing Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Pritam Kotal playing in place of Rahul Bheke in the right back position. The Indian team started the first half very poorly with Jong Gwan scoring 2 goals against India in the 8th and the 29th minute. Sim Hyon Jin scored the second goal of the game in the 16th minute.
India had a better start in the second half with Chhangte scoring one for India in the 51st minute off a Sunil Chhetri assist who later in the 61st minute reduced the margin between the goals. North Korea came strong to reply after the Indian team getting 2 in the score sheet. Un Chol and Ri Jin further extended the Koreans lead in the 63rd and 92nd minute respectively. India as the defending champions of the Intercontinental Cup has failed to register a single win in this season. In the next game, India faces Syria who is the best team participating in the tournament.Read: Igor Stimac –The new man in charge of the Indian Football team
India needs to do something magical to upset Syria. They need to focus on their defense and show more creativity with the ball while attacking. Stimac also needs to decide and settle on one starting eleven players as that will help the chemistry of the team. India sits with 0 points after 2 games and negative 5 goal difference. Tajikistan is the table toppers with six points whereas Syria and North Korea share the second spot with three points.
India still has a chance if Tajikistan manages to defeat North Korea while India wins its own game.
