- Australia forfeit series opener against Sri Lanka in 1996 World Cup
The first match of the World Cup 1996 was slated to take place between Australia and Sri Lanka but the Australian side refused to engage in the country owing to the same reasons as mentioned by the West Indies.
Considering it unsafe to visit the country, the Australian side stayed in Mumbai, India, another host country of that particular edition of the world cup, giving Sri Lanka 2 points in the process.

The decision hardly impacted Australia though with the country making it all the way to summit clash before they were defeated by Sri Lanka.

The information provided to ICC’s security delegation made it clear that there was a high possibility of a terrorist attack in Nairobi, following which New Zealand refused to play in the murky and harsh conditions prevalent in the city at the moment.

“The information received by the ICC Security Delegation to Kenya made it clear that there is a tangible terrorist threat in Nairobi and the board has seen nothing which changes that,” NZC had said in a statement.
They forfeited their group stage match against Kenya but it held no further ramifications on their journey in the tournament as they progressed through to the next round despite the decision.
- England against Zimbabwe in the 2003 CWC
With the horrid political and social unrest in Zimbabwe becoming of paramount concern in the country, England refused to visit the country for the visitors’ opener in the ICC ODI cricket world cup. The decision saw England give 4 points to their opposition as a result of the decision,
leaving them with an aggregate of 12 points which saw them languish out of the event at the group stages itself. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe, on the other hand, made it to the next stage with 14 points before losing all their matches in the knockout stage.
