India vs South Africa 2019 3rd Test Day 2 Match Highlights – India is on a roll. The hosts are on their way to complete a 3-0 whitewash against South Africa. The visitors missed their chance of putting pressure on India after reducing them to 39 for 3 at one stage. They allowed the partnership of Rahane and Rohit to flourish and hence, paid the heavy price for that.

India continued their good form from their overnight score of 224 for the loss of 3 wickets to Sunday. On the second day morning, Rahane eyed to score his first ton of the series while Rohit aimed to score his maiden double ton of his test career.

They continued from where they left off yesterday. The partnership between the two batsmen frustrated the visitors as they kept searching for a breakthrough. Rahane who was close to his hundred yesterday got there in style while Rohit was nearing to the first double hundred of his Test career.

This partnership of these two saw India over the 300 run mark. Rahane and Rohit added 267 runs till then. It was George Linde who broke this mammoth stand for South Africa. Rahane, who played so well till then lost his concentration after he got to his first century of this series. Rahane was caught neatly by keeper Klaasen for a well-made score of 115 runs.

At last, the Proteas broke this stand. They had a slight sigh of relief. But Rohit was still there and now was joined by the hard-hitting all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Hit Man didn’t waste any time and got his maiden test ton with a six. Rohit scored his first 200 runs and became the fourth batsman to score a double ton in a One Day International and the longer version of the game. Hit Man and Jaddu took India to the 370 run mark.

Rohit departed after scoring a mammoth score of 212 runs to his name. He was the one to hold the innings together when India was in trouble. He and Rahane brought India back in the game by sharing a partnership of 267 runs.

Wriddhiman Saha was the next batsman for India but he never batted earlier due to his injury. His outing as a keeper has always been a good one. But now, India needed to support Jadeja who was there at the other end.

South Africa got a big wicket of Rohit Sharma which also affected India’s run rate. Saha and Jadeja took a lot of time to get settled and that was the reason for India’s run-rate to decrease after the departure of Rohit Sharma.

Jadeja was the one to take some chances and that paid off well for him. Saha was also lucky as the edge passed through his bat and earned some boundaries through the third man and the slip vacant areas.

The duo was in the mood to build a partnership but George Linde didn’t allow that to happen. Saha was clean bowled by the debutant for 24 runs.

Umesh Yadav was the one to provide some lusty blows which took India over the 450 run mark. Umesh hit a flurry of sixes which skipper Kohli enjoyed the most from the pavilion. But Ashwin couldn’t do much as he was stumped by Klaasen on 14 runs.

Umesh Yadav continued to entertain the Ranchi crowd as he hit 5 sixes from 10 balls that he faced but, this entertainment was ended by Linde. Umesh reached his highest test score and was caught by Klaasen for 31 runs which he scored from just 10 deliveries.

India was close to reaching the 500 run mark and just then when Skipper Kohli called Nadeem and Shami in. India declared their 1st innings on 497 for the loss of 9 wickets.

South Africa was given just 5 overs to deal with the pace bowlers but they continued their problems with the bat. In the absence of Markram, Quinton De Kock opened the batting with Markram.

But, both the openers couldn’t stand in front of the red hot Shami and Umesh Yadav. De Kock was out in the 1st over. He was out for a duck and Elgar was out for just 4 runs. South Africa will be resuming their play on day 3 with the score of just 9 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Shami and Umesh were the two wicket-takers from the Indian side.
