Coronavirus Update India – India vs South Africa 2020 series cancelled news – South Africa’s Tour of India has been called off by the Board of Cricket Control in India. The South African Team is in India to play a three-match One Day International series against India. The first One Day International was being played in Dharamshala on Thursday but due to the heavy rains, that ODI match was washed out.

Now, there is even worse news. The BCCI has cancelled the second and the final ODI match of this three-match series in the 50 over format. The second match of this three-match was to be held on Sunday, 15th March 2020 while the third and the final ODI match of this series was to be conducted in Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 18th March 2020.

Both these games were to be played behind closed doors of the stadiums. But now, due to the rising threat of the Corona Virus pandemic and with the increasing number of cases in the country, the BCCI has decided to cancel the last two matches of this series.

In a newly released statement, the BCCI said that South Africa will tour India again to play the three-match One Day International series. Now both the boards, BCCI and Cricket South Africa will jointly work to reschedule the next ODI series in India.

The acting chief executive officer of Cricket South Africa, Dr Jacques Faul along with interim director of Cricket South Africa, Graeme Smith have expressed their gratitude to BCCI for this. They said that this decision is very necessary as some major precautions have to be taken to sustain the game of cricket. The Cricket South Africa members are in touch with their medical team and their virology experts are constantly monitoring their situation.

This decision from both the boards has come after many sporting events around the world have been cancelled or postponed. Earlier, the 13th season of the Indian Premiere was also postponed up to 15th April 2020. The IPL 2020 season will be held but the matches will be played behind the closed doors.

The BCCI members are very concerned and sensitive about the health of the stakeholders and the fans who planned to watch the IPL matches. The board wants a smooth and good experience of cricket for the fans.

The board will coordinate and work closely with the Government of India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Sports Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Family Welfare, and all the other ministries including the Central Government and the State Government regarding this Corona Virus issue.

Along with India, the England Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board have also cancelled their next series due to the virus threat. England was supposed to tour Sri Lanka, but both the boards have agreed to cancel this tour of England. This is a precautionary measure to prevent COVID-19.
