India Vs Sri Lanka Second test : Sri Lanka Collapse On Day 1
Match Highlights of India Vs Sri Lanka Second test:
• SL were dismissed for 205
• India are on 11-1
• Pujara and Vijay are batting for India
Contrary to Kolkata, India and Sri Lanka were welcomed by open skies and perfect weather conditions as both the teams took the pitch for the second test match of the three match test series in Nagpur. Batting first, Sri Lanka for the umpteenth time failed to perform well with the bat against India this season. A massive collapse by the Lankans saw them end their first innings for a meager 205 runs, handing India the upper hand on Day 1 of the test match.
After just barely surviving the first test match and being very lucky to come out with a draw, Sri Lanka knew they could not repeat the same batting mistakes as they did last time around if they had any chance of giving India a fight in the second test match. Unfortunately for them it was a same old sorrowful show with the bat, one which showed the massive decline the Sri Lankan batting has gone through in the last couple of years and the work needed on it if Sri Lanka have any chance to compete among the world’s best in international cricket.
Karunaratne (51) and Chandimal (57) were the only saviours for the visitors as they lost wickets after wickets at regular intervals throughout their innings. Unable to string together any meaningful partnership throughout the match Sri Lanka were only able to post a paltry score of 205 against a mighty Indian batting line-up who is expected to easily go past this total and take a huge lead. Ashwin once again proved why for so many years he’s being considered India’s premium bowler as he struck fear into the heart of the Lankan batsmen, bowling with such venom and grit that no Lankan batsman was able to read him. He ended a beautiful spell with figures of 4-67 and was excellently aided by Ishant Sharma who picked up 3 wickets on the day.
At the end of play for Day 1 India found themselves on 11-1 with Vijay and Pujara at the crease. KL Rahul was the only casualty for India who was dismissed for 7.
