India vs Syria Match Highlights – The last match that India played in the Intercontinental Cup 2019 took place yesterday in Ahmedabad against the best team in the competition, Syria. Syria features in the FIFA World Cup regularly and they have players that have played in the international clubs. After the disappointing performances against Tajikistan and DPR Korea, India had a very faint chance of putting up a good fight against one of the best teams. India is going through a rough phase as a lot of changes are taking place in the Indian first division football and the management.

In the match against Syria, the first half was evenly contested between both the sides. India had good phases of possession where they tried to build up their play. The first half ended goalless for the Blue Tigers showing significant improvement in defense in last night’s game. India got the lead from a strike scored by Narender Gahlot in the 52nd minute. Narendar is an 18 year old footballer who plays for Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League. He is the first goal scorer for the Indian team to be born in the 21st century. Syria came back to the game after winning a penalty in the in the 78th minute and the Syrian Captain, Alkhatib hammered the ball in the net high and wide against the Indian goalie.

Despite the equalizer, the Indian team impressed almost everyone with their fluid and free flowing football. India came really close to scoring at the end of the game after a low swinging cross that Alshami nearly converted into a goal. Narendar Gahlot got awarded with the Man of the Match against Syria. Igor Stimac was elated by the performance of his men as he again made a lot of changes in the team, there were 8 new changes made by the Croatian. The draw for Syria means that Syria won’t make it to the finals of the tournament against Tajikistan, the players looked extremely disappointed as they were the favourites to win in the final. The final will now be played between DPR Korea and Tajikistan on July 19.
