India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – After the three-match T20 International series have been done and dusted, India and West Indies will now take on each other in the 50 over battle. This will also be a three-match series affair where the 1st of the three-match will be played at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, 15th December 2019.
The Windies hope for a turnaround after having put up a close battle in the three-match T20 series which India won by a 2-1 margin. Now, the visitors will have their regular stars who helped to whitewash Afghanistan in the ODI series.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019
West Indies had won their first ODI series after 2014. Kieron Pollard was the man for them to do it. He is a very supporting captain and will now look to put up a tough challenge against India in the 50 over format.
With the return of Shai Hope, West Indies will expect a stellar batting effort from the batsmen. Shai Hope will be a good batting option in the middle order as he also has a good record against India in the 50 over format.

India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – The Windies will have to bat the full quota of the 50 overs like they batted in the whole 20 overs in the recently concluded series. In the 50 overs game, they can’t just play their 20 over game. For the first few overs, they should be silent and must try to get well set at the crease and then they can take a full toll on the Indian bowlers who are not that good in the death overs without Jasprit Bumrah.
But, the Indian bowlers are good with the new ball. Bowlers like Shami, Bhuvi, and Chahar can make an impact with the new ball. These bowlers can give the important breakthroughs and then the Windies might have to deal with the troublesome spin combo of KULCHA.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – India will at least play with Kuldeep and Chahal for the first two ODIs. They have a good record in the middle overs and these two will be the first choice as the lead spinners in the team.
Sunil Ambris will open the innings with Ebin Lewis. But Ambris has not performed well against India. Without Lendi Simmons in the ODI setup, West Indies will be handicapped. Lewis is in good form but right now, he needs to play long innings.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – Shrimron Hetmyer was terrific in the T20 International series. Last time when the Windies toured India, Shai Hope and Shrimron Hetmyer were divesting against the Indian bowlers in the first two ODI matches when Bumrah and Bhuvi were rested.
Due to their onslaught, India had to recall Bumrah and Bhuvi in the side and then, India won the ODI series. Here also, Bumrah’s absence might be a blessing in disguise for the visitors. Hetmyer and Hope will want to continue that form in this ODI series as well.
Kieron Pollard was in top form in the T20I series. But Jason Holder wasn’t seen at his best with the bat and the ball. So the ideal replacement for Holder will be Keemo Paul and Roston Chase. They both are quality all-rounders for the West Indies and they also like to like replacement for Holder.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – Paul did not get a single game in the T20 International series. Now, he will be itching to go in the 50 over contest while Chase has that experience, as he also toured India before.
The pace attack also looks good but they should bowl in the good length areas. Instead of bowling just short deliveries, they can use cutters, slower deliveries, and knuckleballs. They know how to vary in line and lengths. With that, they can also use variations as they did in the three-match T20 International series.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – India will look to maintain their winning run in this format against the West Indies. The men in blue are the masters of this format. Especially because they have a good bowling line up and the batting to have a good 50 over game.
India bowled far better in Mumbai than they did in Hyderabad and Trivandrum. Their fielding and catching were also outstanding in the final game which is why they won the T20 International 2-1. The inclusion of Shami in the fast bowling department did the trick for the hosts.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – With no Bumrah, now Shami will be the leader of the Indian pace attack. While they have good subordinates like Bhuvi and Chahar in the team, they also have two good bowlers who bowl well in the middle overs. There is a high possibility that we might see the duo of KULCHA in the ODI set up after a long time.
Even though Kuldeep hasn’t had the best of 2019, but he is a champion bowler and was in India’s scheme of things for the future. India has its basis covered in the batting, that is why KULCHA should play in this series against the West Indies.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – India’s batting has been top class in the ODI format. Even without Dhoni and Dhawan. This team can tackle any good bowling unit in the 50 over format. KL Rahul will be the opening partner of Rohit Sharma in the 50 over series.
But Will the concern for Pant ever end? Pant hasn’t had the best of 2019 season so far. But, he is the only specialized keeper and that is why India had stuck with him so far. India can try KL Rahul as their keeper for this match. He will be a better option than Pant because KL is in the form of his life. Rahul has been kept in the IPL for his franchise team so trying here might not harm India at all.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – Virat and Rohit Sharma will continue to bat as they have done in the rest of 2019. These two are middle-order pillars for India in the limited over game and will want to end this year on a high note because this is the last One Day series in the year 2019.
Shreyas Iyer was in good form in the series against the West Indies but at home, in the T20 series, he wasn’t seen at his best. He will look to make a mark in the ODI series and will also want to cement the number 4 batting slot.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI Match 2019 – Manish Pandey hasn’t done anything wrong in the few opportunities that he has got so far. But now, there is so much competition in the team, that he will have to perform in every game that he plays in. This will help him to be in contention.
India will have to select between Dube and Jadeja. Jadeja has batted well and is an experienced player while Dube is a newcomer who might be in the line of making his ODI debut on Sunday.
