India vs West Indies 3rd ODI 2019 Match Highlights – The Indian fans saw another masterclass from skipper Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer which allowed India to seal the series 2-0. Skipper Kohli scored his 43rd ODI while Shreyas Iyer slammed his 4th ODI half-century. This was enough for India to chase the target of 255 runs in 35 overs only. India won the match by 6 wickets due to the D/L method.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first in this final ODI at Port of Spain. The openers gave them a good start in this match again. Evin Lewis looked good with his partner, Chris Gayle and both these batsmen attacked the Indian new ball bowlers with ease. Gayle and Lewis shared a stand of 114 runs for the first wicket. This opening stand was the first hundred run stand in this series and it came after a long gap for the Windies. The duo hoped to level the series and tried their best to put their foot forward in the game.

But, the rains stopped the game twice. The crowd left frustrated because they had to wait for the match to restart. When the game started again, Gayle and Lewis toyed with the Indian bowlers. The Gayle Storm finally arrived and raced him to his fifty in just 30 balls. Bhuvi, Shami, and Khaleel were put aside all throughout the match. The Windies reached their 100 run mark in just 10 overs. Evin Lewis got carried away by the start and tried to play like Gayle, but he had no proper timing of the shot. Finally, Lewis mistimed the ball of Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling and was caught by Dhawan at the long-on position.

Chris Gayle looked good for his hundred but he too was dismissed early after Lewis. Chris was caught by Virat Kohli at mid-on. He was out for well made 72 runs.

Still, the Windies were in a strong position as Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope looked to rebuild the innings as they scored 37 runs from next 62 balls. But, they couldn’t do much as the Indian spinners pulled things back. When the match was interrupted for the second time, the West Indies stood at a score of 158 runs from 22 overs. After the start, West Indies played 29 overs without hitting any four. Hetmyer and Hope fell quickly in the quest of quick runs.

It was the talent of Nicholas Pooran which helped the hosts to put up a challenging score on the board. Pooran scored 30 runs off just 16 balls and also hit some lovely boundaries which were needed for the Windies. Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite too tried their best to take West Indies to a good total after Pooran’s cameo, but both were picked up by Khaleel Ahmed in quick succession.

The overs were reduced to 35 because the time was lost due to the rains interruptions. The Windies scored 240 runs and lost 7 wickets in their re-allotted 35 overs. Fabien Alien and Keemo Paul were the not out batsmen for the home side.

The Indian bowlers were expensive at the start when Gayle and Lewis smashed all over the arena. But, once they got the breakthrough, they did not look back. The spinners again came into play to stop the flow of runs. But, Shami and Bhuvi should have been more accurate with the new ball. Khaleel Ahmed took 3 wickets, while Mohd Shami took 2. The spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal took 1 wicket each to their names.

The Chase was led by Virat and Shreyas Iyer once again, just like the last match at Guyana some days ago. The unfortunate run out of Rohit Sharma put the pressure back on India in this run chase. Hit Man ran himself out for just 10 runs. It was Shikhar Dhawan who found some form in this innings. He along with skipper Virat Kohi steadied the innings after the early loss of Rohit Sharma. Dhawan and Kohli, the two Delhi mates shared a much-needed partnership and started to rebuild the innings. The Delhi duo shared 66 runs for the second wicket. Dhawan looked and he got himself the start but couldn’t convert this one. Gabbar was out for just 36 runs.

Rishabh Pant continued to disappoint in the one-day series. In this match also he was out after facing just 1 delivery. Pant ended his innings on a golden duck. Then came in Shreyas Iyer to join Virat Kohli. India was placed at 92 for the loss of 3 crucial wickets. The visitors needed more than seven runs in an over. Fabian Allen tied both the batsmen and both Virat and Iyer couldn’t score freely. The West Indian left-arm spinner brought the pressure back on the Indian batsmen as the run rate went up to 8 runs per over.

Here, Iyer used the opportunity and proved himself the best over Fabian Allen. He hit two boundaries off Allen and kept India in the chase. The next over was from Roston Chase who gave India 9 runs. Kohli and Iyer gripped over and India looked comfortable in this run chase. This duo was unstoppable, they continued from where they left in the last match. Kohli and Iyer batted well against the spinners on the track where the ball spun more. These two took the spin out of the equation and reached their respective half-centuries quickly. Virat used his chance well, earlier the Indian skipper was dropped on 11 by Shai Hope. It was a costly miss from the Windies and they later paid a heavy price for it.

India raced hard and reached the 200 run mark. But, Shreyas Iyer was not there till the end. Iyer batted well and was out after scoring his back to back fifty in this series. Shreyas Iyer was out for 65 runs. West Indies had the breakthrough but they still had at the other end. Then it was a mere formality for India as Kohli reached the 2 hundred of this series. It was the 43rd century of his career and was also his 21st hundred as a skipper of the team.

Virat Kohli finished the game with Kedar Jadhav at the other end and scored a Virat ton. He was unbeaten on 114 runs and Jadhav was not on 12 runs as India chased this target with ease. India won this match by 6 wickets and the series 2-1.

The Windies tried hard but the partnership between Kohli and Iyer took the game away. West Indies have always started well but they haven’t finished the games as they wanted to. That’s one more thing that West Indies will have to learn. Only 2 bowlers picked up wickets for the hosts. Kemar Roach took 1 wicket while Fabien Allen took 2 to his name. Virat Kohli was named ‘man of the match’ for his 2nd hundred of the series. His 114 unbeaten knock took the game away from the hosts.
