India vs West Indies match preview – India and West Indies clash in the 34th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This encounter is played on 27th June 2019 in Manchester.
India vs West Indies match preview – Team West Indies –
The Windies need to start getting into winning ways. Their performance hasn’t been up to the mark in this world cup so far. They had a big win against Pakistan and after that West Indies ran in close to win the game against New Zealand, apart from that it has not been a convincing performance for them. There are lots of issues which West Indies need to sort out ahead of their game against India. Their batting is the main problem, their batsmen inconsistent. Players like Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Darren Bravo, Shai Hope, and Jason Holder need to step up in this crucial game.
West Indies also need their young talent like Nicholas Pooran Shimron Hetmyer to fire with the bat. The inconsistency of West Indies batting would give an added advantage to India as the Indian bowlers are in their prime form. It would be difficult for Windies to face the ‘in-form’ Bumrah, Shami, Chahal, and Pandya. West Indies will also face an uphill task of facing the duo of ‘’KUL-CHA’’ in the middle overs.
Even tough Kuldeep Yadav hasn’t been in best of his form, but he can bounce back brilliantly. The Windies can’t rule him out of the game. Their batsmen will have to apply the pressure to the new ball bowlers. But that too, is a tough ask for West Indies. Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, and Shai Hope will have to play with responsibility. They just can’t throw their wickets away as they did in their previous games. The middle order too have their task cut out, Hetmyer, Pooran, Brathwaite and Skipper Holder will have to come good in this must-win game.
On the other hands, their bowling will also be tested as Cottrell, Roach, and Thomas will have to bowl well throughout the 50 overs. The Windies bowlers have started well, except for the match against Bangladesh. The Pacers have used the new ball well. But they have not maintained the pressure throughout. That’s where the Windies have gone wrong in this tournament.
Another concern for West Indies is the spin department, their spinners have not been effective like the other teams. Ashely Nurse has been expensive and many times he went wicketless in their innings. The Windies need to sort the spin bowling concern, it was Chris Gayle who rolled his arm over and got the wicket when their team needed him the most. West Indies will miss a player like Andre Russell. He has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Sunil Ambris has been called for Russell’s replacement.

India vs West Indies match preview – Team India –
Team India is on a winning role in this tournament. Even though their batting was tested against Afghanistan but in the end, they won that game comfortably. It was bowlers day out in Rose Bowl, Bumrah’s special and Shami’s Hat-trick seized the match for team India on Saturday. Now they will face the Windies on Thursday and this is going to a mouth-watering contest for the Team India fans.
Still, India has two concerns before this match, the middle order was not good enough to take the team through to take a defendable score. The likes of MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, and Vijay Shankar failed to make an impact in their last match. After Rohit Sharma’s failure, it was Skipper Virat Kohli who stood tall first and then it was a good cameo of 52 played by Kedar Jadhav which helped the team to post 224 runs on the board.
It’s India’s top 3 who gets more runs every time. India needs to sort the middle order batting issue before they face England and go to the semi-finals. Kohli and team management should include a batting specialist at the number 4 position. It may be a choice between Rishab Pant or Dinesh Karthik. Team India should also be wary of West Indies’s new ball bowlers. Sheldon Cottrell can be a threat to India’s middle order which is not inconsistent form.
Cottrell has damaged the openers with the new ball. West Indies had Australia under the mat at one stage. Kuldeep Yadav’s form is another concern for India. He played well against Pakistan. He got those two breakthroughs which turned the match in India’s favor but he went wicketless against Afghanistan. His inconsistent performance might cause India the problems.
The pace bowlers are in good nick. Jasprit, Bumrah, and Mohd Shami are India’s two trump cards in this world cup. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul missed out against Afghanistan which will make them want to repair that against West Indies on Thursday. Virat Kohli scored his 3rd on the trot in this world cup. He is the second player behind Mohd Azharuddin to do so. Can we expect a hundred from India’s number 1 ODI batsmen?
