Coming back to the India Vs West Indies Test Series complete wrap, the Indian cricket team decimated the West Indies side on Sunday as they put in a dominant performance on Day 3 of the second test match. Running riot with the ball to dismiss West Indies for 127 in their second innings, India’s openers Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul comfortably chased down the 72 run target set for them to guide India to a massive 10 wicket win and a 2-0 series win.
Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant resumed India’s first innings on Day 3 with each walking to the crease on 80. Their centuries were not to come through, with Pant being dismissed for 92, the same score he had to walk back for in the first test match while Vice-captain Rahane was sent back for 80. Ashwin added a few runs down the order to help India to 367.
Trailing India by 56 runs in their second innings, the hopes pinned on the West Indians were high after the grit and resolve shown by them in their first innings. However for the umpteenth time this test series, their top order collapsed once again, showing no persistence needed in test cricket. Both openers departed for ducks to leave the middle-order exposed to an Indian bowling attack that was intent on wrapping up the test match as soon as possible.
With things looking downhill for them, Shai Hope and Sunil Ambris managed to resurrect the innings for a short while for the West Indies. Showing some resistance, Hope (28) and Ambris (38) were the lone warriors in a battle otherwise lost for the West Indies. Their dismissals were the last of the West Indies’ contributions with the bat.
Needing no second invitation to wrap up the West Indian innings, Jadeja and Umesh Yadav went about cleaning up the visitors batting line-up. Figures of 4-45 for Yadav saw him add to his six-wicket haul of the first innings to pick up his maiden ten-wicket haul in test cricket. He was superbly aided by Jadeja on the day who bowled a mean line to end up with 3-12.
