Indian Athletes Nab 4 Gold Medals On Day 2 Of Asian Athletics Championship

Indian racers lead the charge for India on Day 2 of the Asian Athletics Championship to add 4 gold medals to the tally. On a rain soaked day, Indian athletes set the track ablaze to dominate in all categories and grab all four gold medals on offer in the sport.

It was a brilliant day for Indian quarter milers at the Asian Athletics Championships on Friday with national champions Mohammad Anas and Nirmala winning gold in their respective 400m events at the Kalinga Stadium. Haryana girl Nirmala Sheoran started the show for the Indian Athletes by putting in a fantastic performance to win the women’s 400m.Rain caused delay to the event but Nirmala seamed unfazed by it infront of a cheering home crowd. “The weather did spoil the rhythm as the race was delayed,” said Nirmala after the race in which Jisna Mathew won bronze for India. “But once I settled on the blocks I was focused to give my best.”

Mohammad Anas went on to win the men’s 400m to complete the set for the Indians. Rajiv Arokia went on to pick up silver while Amoj Jacob came fourth to complete the Indian team’s dominance in the event. “It’s a dream come true. I was emotional after winning today since I ran four races in two days,” said Anas.

The 1500m race saw India bring in two more gelds. P U Chitra and Ajay Kumar Saroj bagged a yellow metal each in men’s and women’s 1500m race to take India’s gold medal tally to six. Chitra clocked 4 minute 17.92 seconds to win the race to finish way ahead of second placed Geng Min of China (4:19.15) and Ayako Jinnouchi (4:19.90) of Japan. Her male counterpart, Saroj completed the four-gold haul in a span of stunning 30 minutes by finishing the race in 3 minutes 45.85 seconds.

Best Performance by Indian Athletes, India sit pretty on top with a tally of 14 medals.China are a distant second with 4 medals.
