Indian origin cricketers playing for other countries – Cricket has been a passion in India and some follow the gentlemen’s men game as a religion. Indian Cricket Team has had many great players who have had immense success not only in the domestic cricket but also at the International level. This includes players like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Kapil Dev, Yuvraj Singh and many more. On the other hand, there have been many Indian origin players who not only played in the national teams of the country they resided in but some of them went on to become Captain of their respective teams. Nasir Hussain, England

Nasir Hussain

The former England Skipper Nassir Hussain was a great batsman of his team. Even though Nasir Hussain was born in Chennai, he made his debut for England in 1989. After the retirement of Michael Atherton, Hussain was appointed captain of the England team. Under his captaincy, England played 45 Test matches, out of which they won 17. His performance played a big part in making England win in the Caribean for the first time in 36 years.

Rohan Kanhai, West Indies

Rohan Kanhai

The former West Indies batsman Rohan Kanhai has been one of the greatest players of the 70s era. This Indian-origin West Indies player made his debut in 1954 and announced his retirement in 1974. Under his captaincy, West Indies won 3 Tests while 7 Test matches were drawn. Kanhai scored 1,000 runs in one season for Warwickshire on ten occasions. He got appointed team captain in 1972 for the home series against Australia, which they lost. He still remained captain for the tour to England the next summer which they won 2-0.

Hashim Amla

The former player from South Africa, Hashim Amla has been a veteran in South African Cricket. Amla was a pillar of the batting unit of the South Africa team for many years. Amla’s ancestors belong to India’s Gujarat, but they had settled in South Africa many years ago. Amla captained South Africa for 14 Test matches out of which his team won 4 while 6 went into a draw. He owns the record of being the first South African player to score a triple century in Test cricket. Amla was also the fastest batsman in the ODI format of cricket to score 2,000 (40 innings), 3,000 (57 innings), 4,000 (81 innings), and 5,000 (101 innings).

Ashish Bagai, Canada

Ashish Bagai

Delhi-born Ashish Bagai started his international cricket career with the Canada team and was soon made the captain of the team. Bagai captained Canada for 62 ODIs and 9 T20 International matches. Bagai remained captain of the Canada team for 6 years. Ashish was part of Canada’s Under-19 team at the tender age of 15. He was only 18 when he played in the national team in ICC Trophy. In the year 2007, he took up a job with a bank in the UK but turned back to full-time cricket again in 2009.

Asif Karim, Kenya

Asif Karim

Coming from a small town in Mombasa, Kenya, Asif Karim captained his national team. His cricketing career lasted from 1980 to 2003 and he retired after the 2003 World Cup. He played in all the first 25 official ODIs of the Kenya team. Asif was part of the Kenya National team that played in 1996, 1999 and 2003 World Cup. He was captain of the team for the 1999 World Cup.
