Bengaluru FC were handed their first defeat of the season by Goa after a riveting contest between the two. Striker Ferran Corominas scored the first hat-trick of the season as a superb performance by him saw Goa move up to level points with Bengaluru. They went on to beat 10-man Bengaluru FC 4-3 in a thrilling match of the Indian Super League in Margao.
With the third round of group matches underway, Bengaluru sat pretty on top of the table having won both their matches till now while opponents Goa had mixed fortunes till now in the tournament, having won and lost one each of their two matches. With each having put on an excellent display of all-round football till now in the tournament, the stakes were high as both squared off against each other on the night. With the need of the hour being to win at any cost, the match turned out to be one of the best of the season so far as seven goals were shared between the two sides in what will be remembered as a classic.
Playing at home, Goa kicked off looking to get their first win at their home stadium. They used the home advantage to their full benefit as they opened the scoring via star man of the night Corominas who found the back of the net in the 13th minute itself. However Bengaluru levelled the score just 7 minutes later as Goa could not contain the wave after wave of attack upon them by Bengaluru. Hat-trick man Corominas went on to strike again in the 30th minute as a beautifully taken goal by him saw Goa race into the lead. A forgetful couple of minutes from there on saw Bengaluru being down to 10 men after Gurpreet was given a red card. Using the extra man advantage, Goa went on the front foot and soon doubled their lead when Bruno converted from the penalty spot.
The game looked all but over as both the teams went into the second half but Bengaluru had other ideas. Despite playing with a man less, they proved why they are table toppers as they played to the opponent’s weaknesses and shocked the home crowd as they levelled the scores at 3-3. However Goa’s trump card Corominas was not done as he went on to complete his hat-trick y scoring the winner for Goa and taking them level on six points with Bengaluru.
