Indian Writer and Activist #MahaswetaDevi died at age of 90
A prominent Indian Writer and activist, Mahasweta Devi died yesterday at the age of 90, in a city in Kolkata. She was Hospitalised earlier this month and died of cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure.
Her work was basically written on the subject of “oppression of lower caste and lower tribes of India”. Her works include the best-selling Breast Stories and are also studied in universities across India.
Several leaders along with Prime Minister paid tribute to the writer. On the other hand, Bengal Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee tweeted- ” India has lost a great writer. Bengal has lost a glorious mother. I have lost a personal guide. Mahashweta Di rest in peace”.
Urvashi Bhutalia, a publisher said- “Her writing was a political battle for the downtrodden and she never compromised on her ideas. She was a very kind human being.”
