As we draw ever so closer to India’s biggest footballing event till date we at Tentaran decided to take a look at what this tournament means for the country and what are India’s chances at the event. Participating in their first-ever football World Cup in any age group India have a chance to prove their credentials not only as a footballing nation but also as World Cup hosts. Without a doubt, this is India’s golden chance to announce themselves on the international football stage.

 

India is abuzz with preparations in full swing as India looks to host the tournament from tomorrow.  With the Association and Government shelling out 100 crores only on the Salt Lake Stadium, a fund in excess of 300 crores have been shelled out to ensure that the visiting nations are provided with all the international facilities and amenities. With the stadiums shining and ready, all eyes now turn to the team who lead by Amarjit Singh Kayam will be looking to outdo expectations and shine India’s name on the global stage. Placed in a tough group along with formidable names such as USA, Columbia and two-time champions Ghana, India start the tournament as underdogs with many pundits believing that they won’t even make it out of Group A. Luis Norton de Matos, India’s FIFA U-17 World Cup coach has set an initial target for the Indian team of making it at least to the quarterfinal. His optimism and the visible improvement in Indian team’s technique and tactics along with formidable team spirit may lead to a few wins for India.

 

Can the boys silence all critics and show project India as the next coming thing in international football? Featuring a crop of players who have played more than 50 friendly matches against teams in Germany, Spain, UAE, South Africa, Luxembourg, France, Norway, Italy, Hungary, Brazil, Portugal, Russia and Mexico they certainly have the experience and talent at disposal to do so. Here’s wishing them all the luck and hoping the can make India proud!
