Starting on 19-1, Sri Lanka had their backs against the wall as they looked to pull off one of the greatest batting performances to save the match. Having failed time after time in the series with the bat, Sri Lanka looked to do the impossible as they took the field on Day 3.They however once again succumbed to India’s prowess with the ball as they collapsed magnificently for the second time on a batting friendly wicket. More than India’s brilliance with the ball it was Sri Lanka’s incompetence with the bat that handed the match to India within just three days.
India started the day strong as they picked up 3 quick wickets to peg Sri Lanka at 34-4.Sri Lanka finally found some breathing space as they finally set a partnership together in the middle, one that saw Chandimal and Mathews put on 70 runs. The quick dismissal of both, however, was the end of the Lankan resilience and the Indian bowlers picked up wickets in no time to dismiss Sri Lanka to just 181.
Hardik Pandya was declared the man of the match and Shikhar Dhawan the man of the series for his scintillating performances with the bat. Having dominated the entire series, India will be going into the ODI and T20 series with the extreme confidence of replicating their form.
