  • Went to DAV School and completed his higher schooling in St. Edward’s School in Shimla. Took an avid interest in cricket from a young age was selected to play for Haryana in domestic cricket after his talent shone through.
  • Made his debut for Haryana in 1975. He made an impact in that game after he picked up six wickets to restrict Punjab to 63 runs and take his team to a comprehensive win.
  • His1978-79 season caught the eyes of the selectors after he took his maiden 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket. This lead to him getting selected for the Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Wills Trophy matches. During the 1979-80 season he scored his maiden century in domestic cricket, showing his mettle with the bat and proving himself as a true all-rounder and an invaluable asset to his team.
  • Working his way after playing domestic cricket for many years, Dev finally made his debut for the Indian team against Pakistan. Despite failing in the initial stages of his career, he announced himself on the world stage when he humbled the mighty Indies.He scored 126 runs in just 124 balls and took 17 wickets in that series against the best team in the world.
  • After leading India to two series wins against their biggest rivals Pakistan, Dev was handed the mantle of the Indian captaincy in 1982-83 and led his team in the 1983 World Cup. He will forever be remembered for not just his brilliant captaincy in that match but also his stellar performances which helped a lowly ranked India win their first World Cup.
  • He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1982 and in 1991 was honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
  • Has made cameo appearances in Hindi movies like ‘Iqbal’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’.
