A superb first-half display saw Bayern race into a three-goal lead within 27 minutes as they put on an attacking master-class to shred apart the Chelsea youngsters. They slowed in the second as a better-organised Chelsea competed harder and with more vigour to pull 2 goals back and set up a frantic half. Bayern managed to hang on to their one goal advantage amid wave after wave of Chelsea attack to win 3-2 in Singapore and with it record their first win of the International Champions Cup.
Chelsea paid the price for a slow start, falling 1-0 behind when Brazilian full-back Rafinha came forward and pinged a low shot from 25 yards which found its way into the corner. Franck Ribery who was superb on the night found space to wander down the left wing before floating in a cross which Thomas Muller volleyed past Thibaut Courtois. Muller then smashed in a long-range effort to get his second goal of the match.
Antonio Conte’s men grew into the game and pulled one back before half-time when Marcos Alonso drilled in Victor Moses’ square pass. Chelsea record signing Alvaro Morata got his first taste of action on Tuesday and looked sharp and exciting in the 30 odd minutes he played in the second half. He got an assist in a promising debut to set up Michy Batshauyi. Despite silky moves throughout the second-half, Chelsea fell short in the end to slip to a 3-2 defeat against German champions Bayern Munich.
Chelsea next play their final friendly in Asia on Saturday against Inter Milan, before returning to the UK for the Community Shield against Arsenal on August 6.
