IPL 2018 1st match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will make the start of 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League on 7th April. IPL 2018 1st match

The tournament will be declared open with a glistening opening ceremony which will kick-start from 5 pm IST. With a change in the format being implemented this year, the opening ceremony will be held on the day of the IPL 2018 1st match itself. The ceremony will also see the captains of all teams make their presence felt at the ceremony as was customary earlier. The ceremony promises to be a pompous affair with stars like Hrithik Roshan and Varun Dhawan set to take the stage by fire. The organisers did face a little drawback in their preparations though as Parineeti Chopra pulled out of the ceremony yesterday after citing less rehearsal time as a problem for her. “Parineeti was shooting non-stop for ‘Namastey England’ in Patiala and had back-to-back pre-committed endorsement commitments. So, unfortunately, she did not have enough time to rehearse in spite of her best efforts,” the actress’ spokesperson said. With Ranveer Singh having already withdrawn earlier, the organisers have moved quickly to rope in replacements and ensure that the preparations for the ceremony stay on track. The ceremony is set to last for 90 minutes and will end by 7:15.

Shifting focus back to the IPL 2018 1st match, three times champions Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings who have won twice. With Ms Dhoni back to captain Chennai after they make a comeback to the IPL after two seasons, having earlier been banned for match-fixing, Chennai will be looking to make a grand re-entry into the IPL. A win against the defending champions on their home turf will help Chennai announce their return in grand fashion. For Mumbai who has retained their core this year and go into the IPL with a strong backbone and overall complete team, the challenge is to open their account with a win as the challenge to defend their crown promises to be tougher than ever this year.

The match will start from 8 pm IST with the toss taking place at 7:30 pm IST at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The IPL 2018 1st match can be watched live on the Star network and will be streamed online on the HotStar App also.
