IPL 2018: CSK vs KXIP IPL Match Highlights Match 56
CSK vs KXIP IPL Match Highlights:
- CSK won 5 wickets
- They chased down 153
- CSK came 2nd while Punjab 7th
After Delhi had defeated Mumbai earlier in the day, Punjab failed to make the most of that favour, crashing out of the tournament shamefully. Taking on the Chennai Superkings in a must win match for them, Punjab knew the maths was simple. Batting first, they had to defeat CSK by 53 runs or more to overtake Rajasthan Royals on net run-rate to make the play-offs for this year’s Indian Premier League. Winning by 53 runs apart, KXIP collapsed horrifically to not even win the match and end their season in bitter disappointment.
Coming back to CSK vs KXIP IPL match highlights, Coming out to bat, Punjab’s batsmen looked unsure of what their plan really was on the night. Playing at an Indore Stadium that has been famous for its high scores this season, the pair of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle walked out among high expectations. However their plan to tee off from the first ball itself failed to work in their favour after Gayle’s glove nicked a short ball to send the pivotal West Indian back to the pavilion for a duck. His dismissal seemed to deflate the morale of the team. Wickets fell in flurry from there on with the top three falling for a combined total of 6 runs. For once this season, Punjab’s middle-order performed but you can do only so much when you are chasing the game. Karun Nair went berserk to give Punjab a late charge towards a defendable total. After scoring 50 in Punjab’s first match of the tournament, he scored 50 in their last match as well. His 54 along with Tiwary’s 35 was still not enough in the end for KXIP who could only manage 153, not even playing out their full quota of overs in the process.
Knowing they had to dismiss CSK under 100, KXIP’s bowlers knew the task was impossible if anything. They did give it a shot though in the opening overs, sending back CSK’s 3 batsmen for just 23. Ankit Rajpoot’s one over looked to turn the tide in Punjab’s favour after he bowled a mean line and length to take two wickets. He was unlucky to not have a third in that over itself after Finch rounded off a disastrous season for himself by dropping Harbhajan Singh off an easy chance in the slips. With that ended Punjab’s hopes as CSK ended up winning by 5 wickets, falling just short of SRH in the table by a marginal net run-rate.
