The best crowd in the country was finally treated to a win at the Feroz Shah Kotla after the Delhi Daredevils went berserk. Shaking off their rust Delhi went onto win their second match of the Indian Premier League in eight matches. The win also saw them finally move up from the bottom spot which they had occupied for weeks on end as they overtook the Mumbai Indians to move up a spot. With a change of captaincy, Delhi went onto chop and change further, dropping one of the best T20 players in Gautam Gambhir. With the move more than obvious after Gambhir had earlier in the week stepped down from the captain’s position to hand it over to youngster Shreyas Iyer, many were uncertain if the move would pay off in favour of a struggling Delhi side. Luckily for them, it paid off in their favour today as Delhi trashed the Kolkata Knightriders by 55 runs on the night.

With Jason Roy being dropped for the second time in a row paired with the absence of Gambhir, Delhi fielded a completely new opening pair. And the movie worked like a peach as the duo of Prithvi Shaw and Collin Munro more than justified the faith put in them by the management. Without wasting a second Collin Munro announced himself this IPL as he took the fight straight to the Kolkata Knightriders. Blasting his way to 33 off just 18, Munro ensued that Delhi made the most of the powerplay overs. Taking off from where Munro had left, the inform Shreyas Iyer stepped up in grand fashion in his first match as Delhi captain. The only consistent batsmen this season for Delhi, performed once again as he scored an enthralling 93 runs. Hitting 29 in the last over, Iyar ended his innings in befitting style. 10 sixes of his bat along with U-19 star Shaw’s 62 saw Delhi post a mammoth 219.

 

Knowing that nothing can be taken for granted with this Delhi team this season, the home support was nervous as Delhi came out to defend their target. However, Delhi were in the mood to show everyone that on their day they can beat anyone. 5 quick wickets put them in the driver’s seat before a 7th wicket partnership between Russel and Karthik gave them some jitters. The fun lasted for a brief while only for KKR who ended up crawling to 164-9 in the end.
