The Wankhede Stadium was packed to the rafters with celebrities and fans who came out in full strength to support their side one last time this Indian Premier. The stage was set and so were the players. With 7 striking the clock, Chennai Superkings and Sunrisers Hyderabad stepped out to grace the Mumbai pitch for a shot at the ultimate prize, the beautiful IPL trophy.
Coming back to IPL 2018 Final Match Highlights, With the closing ceremony behind us and all match coverage done and dusted, it was time for the gala event to finally kick-off. The best teams this year had only one agenda on their mind. Win today and live like kings for the rest of your lives. And it was CSK who proved that they were thirstier to get their hands back on the trophy after being out of the tournament for the last 2 years.
MS Dhoni and Kane Williamson were greeted to huge applause as they stepped out for the toss which saw SRH bat first. The make or break game for them got off in the worst way possible with Goswami getting run-out in the beginning overs itself. However their main stand stays Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson came to the party when it really mattered. Knowing these were the wickets that really mattered, Dhoni chopped and changed his bowlers around, changing field placements in a bid to unsettle the pair. His tactics worked as he Dhawan was bowled early on. Orange cap holder Williamson showed the world though that he is a big match player. His 47 was of immense importance to his side helping them reach 178. SRH found themselves in some trouble though after he departed and it was the ever experienced Yusuf Pathan who rescued his side. He played a magnificent innings of 45 off just to give his side a good chance of winning.
Coming out to bat, opener Fad du Plessis and Shane Watson were caused all sort of troubles from the word go. A maiden first over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar was followed up by equally fine bowling by Sandeep ultimately resulting in the crucial wicket of Faf. Having scored 0 of 11, Watson decided he had finally had enough as SRH made a bowling change. Taking on the newly introduced Kaul, Watson went all out, finally opening his arms. There was no stopping the world class all-rounder from there on who declared attack on SRH. 11 fours and 8 sixes saw him destroy the best bowling side in the IPL in of one of the best innings in an IPL final that saw him become the only batsman to hit a century in a winning cause in a final. 111 off 57 decimated SRH and galloped CSK to their third title.
