IPL 2018 Highlights: SRH Vs RR Hyderabad bowl themselves to victory

The first-weekday match of the Indian Premier league saw age-old rivals Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad. Returning to the IPL after two seasons, the Royals were itching to get back on the field and prove their class once again. Both the teams saw a change of captain right before the IPL commenced with Ajinkya Rahane and Kane Williamson replacing the banned Australian duo of Steve Smith and David Warner.

Batting first, Rajasthan saw a mishap send their opener back in the first over itself. Going for a quick run, Arcy found himself short of the crease after a Williamson hit smashed the wickets. The writing was on the wall though with captain Ajinkya Rahane and Arcy getting involved in a mix up just a couple of balls earlier. That was a sign of things to follow for Rajasthan as their entire innings followed in the same suit. They never found themselves finding any kind of meaningful time in the middle, with batsmen after batsmen hitting and missing to end their innings at a meagre 125 from their 20 overs.

Chasing a pitiful target, Hyderabad could have found themselves in some trouble had Rahane held onto a chance off Dhawan when we were yet to open his account. Dhawan made the most of his second chance as he blasted 77 to put on a partnership of 121 with Williamson to blast Rajasthan out of the game and win the game for his side by 9 wickets.

Dhawan enjoys playing long innings. It benefits the team, it benefits me. I’m just trying to stretch the good form as long as possible. We have a very balanced side and we have all bases covered. That is the key. It’s just the start of the tournament and we hope to keep the rhythm going.

Kane Williamson: No doubt we miss David. We played well as a team, the fielding effort was brilliant so nice to take the points. All the bowlers played their part picked up wickets at key times, once again a good team performance, we do want to improve as well coming into the next ball.
