Well the defending champions showed that they are no walkovers on Sunday as they posted a mammoth 181 at the Wankhede against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Contrary to popular belief, the Rohit Sharma lead side went onto win their match after restricting KKR to 168.
With a lone win from their first six games, things seemed all but over for the Mumbai Indians. One of the biggest revelations this season, youngster Suryakumar Yadav proved that he is no one time fluke yesterday with a fine 59. Coming off just 39 balls, he hit 7 fours and 2 sixes to maintain a healthy strike rate of 151. Pairing up with Elvin Lewis who got a fine 43 for himself for the opening wicket, Yadav ensured that Mumbai got a dream start. Despite captain Sharma departing early yet again, all-rounder Hardik Pandya got a vital 35 off 20 in the dying overs to nudge the Indians past the fearful 180 run mark.
Determined to win, Mumbai Indians got about their job in just the perfect way with two quick wickets. They are however given a scare for a good 10 overs with Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana forging a fine partnership. Their dismal in quick succession was just what Mumbai needed. It gave them the much-needed boost on the day as their bowlers maintained their nerves to contain Karthik right at the end and seal the two points for their side.
