Winning the toss and choosing to bat first helped CSK put pressure on RR. Despite losing the in-form Ambati Rayadu early, the ever reliant Shane Watson and back in good touch Suresh Raina strung together a vital partnership for their side. Raina took the attack to Rajasthan’s bowlers while Watson played the anchor role, stroking away quick singles and doubles with the occasional boundary to keep the run-rate moving at a healthy speed. Late exploits down the order off the bat of Dhoni was him register 33 off 23 after a good come-back by RR helped them close CSK’s scoring at 176-4.

Ben Stokes and Ajinkya Rahane’s early dismissals saw RR starting their chase in the worst possible manner. For Rahane, it’s been a torrid season. The pressures of captaincy haven’t paid off too well for him. Not only has his side played poorly with his decisions not paying off as he would have liked but his batting has also been disastrously poor. With Sanju Sampson getting run-out after stringing together a mini stand with Butler, CSK fans were in high spirits knowing that the job was almost done. Butler however was intent on playing through the innings and seeing his side to a win. He blazed himself to 95 off just 60 balls to ensure that his side won their fifth match this season.
