IPL 2020 News: Concerns regarding IPL 2020 amid coronavirus pandemic
IPL 2020 latest news – As the franchise teams are moving towards the newly decided IPL dates which is scheduled from mid-September in UAE, there are some genuine concerns that they have to tackle with. The August 2 IPL Governing Council Meeting will decide on some pending important points as also see as to how to handle these concerns. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the tournament will be decided in this meeting.
Decisions regarding quarantine and COVID-19 testing protocols are to be set in place. If an unfortunate event occurs and someone tests positive for the coronavirus, there has to be some protocol in place which must be followed uniformly by all teams. Some questions regarding this would be what would be done if one team member turns out to be COVID-positive. If the team member should be isolated separately or the entire team be moved to a bio-bubble facility, still remains a concern for the franchise teams. The impact of some team members testing positive on the subsequent matches of the same team especially if someone tests positive on the day of the match still remains a looming concern.

Maintenance of the said bio-bubbles and arrangement leading to the regular COVID-19 tests of the players, staff, and other members of the franchise would also need to be decided upon. If the tests would be arranged by BCCI or the franchise separately is also a matter of concern. There is also some concern around the travel and stay arrangements of the team members especially if they bring along their families. The possibility of some tourists staying in the same hotel as the players is also a matter of discussion.

In the unfortunate event of some player testing positive for COVID-19, a replacement for the player might have to be done. So deciding on a sizable pool of replacement squad is also crucial before moving forward with the IPL 2020. In the event of some foreign player pulling out for some reason like a callback for national duty, which could be a possibility with Australian and English players, franchises will also have to look at the auction pool which leads to clashes among the franchises.

While in India, franchises always have a pool of supporting players and net bowlers to help the core team practice before their matches. The question of whether the franchise teams would be allowed to take them along to the UAE is also a matter of concern. Their question of training schedules and practicing also depends on these points. Also whether the players would be allowed to meet with outsiders during the tenure is also a dangling concern. Ideally, they shouldn’t be so as to maintain the safety of their own health and other team members amid this pandemic.
Hope the officials work out a smooth plan for IPL 2020.
