With another defeat looming on the horizon, Krunal Pandya and Rohit Sharma battled with all their grit and might like true gladiators to see Mumbai fight another day as they moved to 5th in the premier league table, moving three places up all the way from last.
Coming back to MI vs KXIP match highlights, the first of Mumbai’s must-win matches saw them travel to Punjab’s second home in a do or die contest for them. With one mistake meaning their exit from the tournament, Mumbai committed many but was lucky to be facing a Punjab fielding unit who were hell-bent on outdoing them. With the Gods smiling on them, Mumbai was able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat which also saw them strengthen their fight for the top 4 spot with another two points on the board.
KL Rahul and Chris Gayle stepped out to thunderous applause as they looked to string together another high scoring partnership this season. The Indore crowd who have quickly endured themselves to the Punjab team were not let down by the fabled opening duo that looked intent in their target to register a mammoth total. Putting Mumbai’s failing bowling unit another the cosh right from the word go, the pair complemented each other shot for shot. It looked like there was a mini competition going on between the both, with each matching the other’s four with his own six in reply. The enigmatic Gayle notched up another fine half-century but was unable to see it to the end of the innings which ended up costing Punjab. It was only till Marcus Stoinis came to the party that Punjab managed to put up much-needed runs at the end and reach a good fighting total.
Apart from Yadav’s 57 at the top of the order, Mumbai’s innings was going haywire and heading for another defeat before fine hitting by Krunal Pandya saw him race to 31 off 12 and save face for his side.
