Chennaiyin FC marched onto the final of the Indian Super League after they trashed Goa FC 3-0 at home. With the first leg ending at 1-1, Chennaiyin turned up their game style as fluid attacking football by them saw them find the back of the net thrice. An equally good defensive performance saw them keep a clean sheet as well to round off a perfect performance. They now face Bengaluru FC in the final who also won 3-0 against Pune in their second leg semi-final tie courtesy of a Hattrick by Sunil Chettri.
With the first leg ending 1-1 in Fatora, both the teams knew they would have to increase their attacking intent if either had a chance of booking their place in the final of the tournament. Chennaiyin FC were the ones who stepped up to the plate as an utterly dominating performance by them saw them breeze past opponents Goa FC 3-0 on the night. Jeje Lalpekhlua truck twice as he scored in the 26th and 90th minutes to put paid to Goa’s hopes. He opened as well as rounded off the scoring to guide CFC into their second ISL final. Local star Dhanpal Ganesh scored in between those goals as his header ended up doubling the host’s lead in the 29th minute. It was not only the attacking might of Chennaiyin that was on the show though. A fine defensive performance ensured that they kept a clean sheet too after Karinjit Singh ensured so with some fine heroics. Chennaiyin’s stone wall at the back was up to the task once again as he palmed away a fine free-kick by Lanzorte in the 86th minute. He kept out an in curling ball with a fine save to ensure that the hosts did not allow Goa back into the game and went onto seal an emphatic victory with another goal in the final minute of the match.
Chennaiyin now face Bengaluru FC in the final on March 17 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore
